Hey Spud Deal with the engine gearbox as 2 seperate compartments. The gearbox is vented by a 4mm plastic tube on LHS case up near the rear of the fuel tap. Is it blocked? I deliberatly overfill my gearbox & it vents oil out of here to the level it wants. The engine is not vented as it is a 2 stroke & relies on primary compression which has oozed from your base gasket (black mark) Water in the engine is usually from a blocked airbox drain. take the airfiletr out & have a look in the bottom. Try tightening the base gasket bolts before you go for a complete strip. If you do strip use the same thickness as fitted. The bike was running fine before right!? Changing the base thickness will vary the exhaust port timing !!!! Leaking exhaust, just torque the bolts up after lubricating them. For a waterlogged engine take the sparkplug out & turn the bike upside down. Yes really, been there done that. I will be riding at monkins farm if you want to chat, I was a bike mechanic before I found a job that paid properly. Cheers

Hey Spud I was on that last trial with you & I dont reckon you lost 150 marks...

change the gearbox oil every 3rd or 4th trial and the problem will go away. 2002TXTPro280. see my other posts.

Glad to be of help. remember stick to the basics with bikes & then let it settle. If it plays up again change the gearbox oil, i change mine every 3rd trial.

I seem to recall the 06 uses synthetic oil only!

make sure there is some slack at the lever end. make sure it is bled properly with clean fluid change the gearbox oil ensure the bike is warmed up My 2002 280 Txt Pro used to be like this I fitted a new set of plates but it didn't need it. If you do make sure you have a sharp chisel & a new set of cap heads for the basket. If you do strip it check the top hat clearance in the operating plunger. details on gasgas.com Once you have done all of the above it will probably drag for the 1st hour or so then settle down. when settled dont fiddle with it!

The dellorto PHBL has a complex pilot drilling which is notorious for blockage. see my previous posts. The last one I fixed required a new carb to put it right. #85 quid direct from dellorto in reading. Regards

OK back to basics The timing & carb are irrelavent You should have a good spark whatever. We replaced my Bros with a leonelli & had similar results it would start but not enough voltage to run the fan. It turned out to be a short on the loom. Strip it all out check everything with a meter. Ensure is connected properly. Then no spark means no good generator!

my brothers had the same problem. New stator & then started doing it again, in the end it would not run at low revs & pinking dreadfully. I traced it to a porous carb casing depleting the pilot air suction. A New carb fixed it, 85 quid from delorto direct fully jetted.

my brothers went the same way. search out intabikes on the net as there is a replacement leonelli generator which retails at either 270 or 230 quid to replace the crappy ducati system. its sounds a lot but it replaces the ignition coil too. I have the old ducati stator if you want a knackered spare for rewind? Also this particular bike has another problem hunting on tickover which i have traced to a porous carburettor casting. a new dellorto is 85 quid. dont drill the casing it will let water in! give me a shout for more help. 07799602410 Keith

The sponge in the airbox sounds like it could work. I clean the air box after every trial now. My seizure occurred after a 70ft climb up a water filled gulley & the box was full! When I turned the bike round to descend it drank the water. Remember the box will be under a few millibar of negative pressure & fills rapidly on a full throttle climb. Pray it does not hydraulically lock & bend the rod. Turn the bike upside down plug out & drain the muddy water from the crankcase! Long term solution fit a snorkel

They all do it! Try changing the gearbox oil to a 5w 40 as opposed to 10/40 change the oil regulally. the petals stick on the dowel posts usually when the bike is hot. Dont over adjust the master cylinder you must have some slack. check the tech section of gasgas.com it covers clutch set up. finally be sure there is no build up of metallic sludge just in the belville spring ring. I bleed the system using a 4ft long tube straight back into the master cylinder. Cheers
