sorry if i have posted this in the wrong forum but i have looked for a while and couldnt see one that wasnt a few years old! am suprised at that.
My twinshock montesa isnt as close to being used as i thought so the boss (mrs) says i can get something else to use in the mean time. i am brand new to off road riding and trials. the bikes i have been looking at are montesa 315s and gas gas txt pros and looking at a 250 from around 2002 onwards. both can be picked up for around 800 - 1300 which is perfect. both of these will be plenty enough for me but mechanically wise which is better. am not afraid to do my own work. also is there anything in particular i should be looking / listening for? i know to look for the basics like headstock bearings and fork seals etc. my luck is i would buy a bike then it would need a sausage spring they stopped making years ago thats many many quids if you can find one.
just looking at new sprockets and was wondering why the spacing on the bolts were weird. turns out i have a 248 wheel and swing arm in there. then the brake pedal has been modified. grrrrr.
having a look on a few sites and there are 2 chains for sale. a 428 and a 520. which the best for a late 70s montesa 247 cota? cant seem to find any info on it.
i have bought a tatty 247 late model that i plan on restoring then using. Pics are on the way!
Are there different swing arms for the 247. the one on mine doesnt be able to fit the large chain guard there are no mounting points for it near the shock mount and the swing arm doesnt seem to be long enough to cater for the chain guard. do twinshock bikes have to have a shark style chain guard on the underside of the rear sprocket to conform woth ACU rules?
Also as a rough guide for beginner riding what tooth sprockets would people recommend.
