  1. plug is gapped correctly. i will check the spark quality. i have heard of "blowing" the spark out. still going to give this chap a ring, a few people have recommended him.
  2. not 50:1 40-50mls of oil per 5 l. 100-120:1 your right. i have done everything i can do other than bin the FI and put a good ole fashioned carb on. i remember the days when............... ill give him a ring and see whats what.
  3. we have a result!!! no the one i was hoping for but hey. instead of burning through a plug in 4 trials i managed it in a record 2.5 hours. didnt rev out properly, ran really rough. surely less oil means a richer mixture, if i am right the oil doesnt combust jut lubricates right? so 50 mls of oil will mean less petrol in the chamber.
  4. that might be worth a go too. i am doing a training session this saturday, first time out with 40mls of oil and the fuel treatment. i have a hotter plug and have thought about it but i have blown holes in pistons before and had the ballache of repairing it so its good to hear someone else has done it i have heard the more modern maps runa little leaner. when i was cleaning the bike a thought came to me. there was the ecu, a relay and the battery to the easy start in the airbox. i could hardly see the filter, the bike starts fine so i have removed the battery and am hoping it will allow a little more air to flow freely in the airbox. aything is worth a shot. the tps was reset less than 10 hours ago. cheers for all the suggestions everyone. also going to change from esso high octane to bp.
  5. changed to mx9, using bp ultimate fuel. killed the first plug today. the annoying thing is that on any other bike its a quarter of a turn on the air screw. also unless its wide open it doesnt like 3/4 to full throttle, it seems to bog down, but it runs a million times better and starts easily after the tps got reset. will have to go and see the bloke at cambs trial center again. he is the closest to me. the fuel treatment sounds like a good idea, i ran that in my bandit to stop the carbs from freezing, so does the iridium plug. will give it 40mls of oil next time too.
  6. sorry forgot i posted this. i have had the tps reset and a couple of codes that came up cos i had run it with the tps on the cock. the plug is still sooty black, i am going to try putoline 45mls per 5l. your right it doesnt sound alot but thats what the book says. ill see what happens. the exhaust i believe to be clogged too, its had 130 hours on it, seems a right faff to repack it and a replacement aint cheap and the termi is over 800 quid. mmmmmmmm decisions decisions. a good clearout run aint doing the job.
  7. Hi Been having some issues with the mixture on mine, plug is always sooty black, went through new plug in a trials and a practice today, saw that the TPS was loose too, anyone know of somone in the leicester area that can reset the tps and have a fiddle with the mixture? i have had a google but couldnt see any trials mechanics in leicester at all but them i am not the best at googling. I do plod around on the easy routes so i dont make the bike work as hard as it could, i cleared it out with a quick 4th gear full throttle blast and it smoked like hell for a while. that did make it a little happier but then wouldnt idle, cleaned the plug and its all lovely again. makes me think the exhaust could do with a re pack too, any ideas on how to do this without cutting a hole in there? am using the higher RON petrol (not race gas) with 50mls of silkolene race oil per 5l. cheers all
  8. hi. i am 6"4 with a 32" inside leg. the xl trousers dont seem to be long enough on the sites, i will be buying online so trying isnt really an option. what are my fellow lanky riders using? i have a set of leathers that just about fit me but the sliders are a little too high, seeing as i am riding my trials bike more than my road bikes now i would like something that fits properly. not fussed about make or colour just something thats good. cheers all.
  9. i have a wulf helmet and there isnt an acu sticker on the back of mine. dont see any reason to remove it and it doesnt look like its been removed. seems funny for a trials company to release a product that couldnt be used in the sport. no one has ever looked at mine at any even either.
  10. More adventures with my little bike. the engine is a little rattly, it is nearly 20 years old after all, so i am going to do a bit of an overhaul. does anyone know if the 200 is the same as the 250 with a smaller cylinder? am hoping its the mains and a new piston but am planning on the worst, if it needs a new big end bearing i can only find 250 270 con rods. i dont know about using the old con rod with a new bearings, is that allowed or bodgy? am amazed at the difference in price of bike spare shop bearings and bearing shop bearings.
  11. it doesnt make sense to me to have it by weight, like you have shown the volume changes with different oils. but seeing as you know quite a bit about oil i will be using an 80 weight oil. so 550mls seems like a sensible place to start.
  12. Going to change the oil on my lttle bike. the manual says 500g of oil. before i go weighing oil and loosing some in the transfer does anyone know how many mls this equates to? cheers
  13. to answer my own question, yes, very newb friendly. A bit thanks to everyone who gave me advice. The family in the blue sherco jackets big thanks and Ian and Tony for showing me the ropes. A great day, muddy to the eyeballs and i cant wait for the next one.
  14. right 90% there. bike sorted. transport sorted, boots lid and glubs sorted, everything sent to acu fingers crossed it will arrive shortly. Do i need to fill the application form out and hand it in on the day or do i need to send it to someone in advance. Thanks for putting up with these complete newb questions, i never done or been involved in any sort of motorsport, only spectated. I have the form from the site am probably missing something obvious as usual. if it doesnt work out i'll still turn up. am not hard to miss 6"6 tall with blonde dreadlocks
  15. i had some success with silkolene tit gel. That sets like wax.
  16. yeah i saw the £50 for a year practice, looks a good deal. acu licence is in the post i hope, still got a couple of weeks to sort the niggles out. hopefully there arent any. Time to get stuck in me thinks. cheers everyone.
  17. I have used silkolene tit chain lube, thats like the waxy stuff you get on brand new chains. I like whites dry chain lube but for a trials bike may be a little ott and expensive. chainsaw oil sounds like a good way to go. I thought wd40 was a seal eater?
  18. Hi. finally getting everything sorted for my first trial. I am not a member of the earl shilton club but due to shifts its looking like it could be my first. First for a lot of things, first trial, first time riding a bike off road. Cant find much info on the event other than its the jack frost trial but does anyone know if its suitable for a newbie? cheers everyone. time to get my new boots dirty.
  19. thanks for that. never come across this before. bit of a panic post when i saw one leg moving freely and the other sprung. i thought the master and mother of all bodge jobs had gone on here. phew
  20. I am getting my beta 200 "98 ready to use and i was doing the headstock bearing this morning. when i took the forks out one obviously had a spring in it and the other one didnt. when its working together it feels alright i suppose, a squidgy front end, not too much sag, rebound is quick, when stationary and balancingif i give the forks a good push and pull the front wheel comes up easily into a little wheelie. the left fork has what looks like damping adjustment and the right fork looks like it has the rebound. tried to find a few pics online to compare mine to but cant get the pic i need. I hope thats made some sense. i didnt put it in the beta forum because i bet if one bike has one spring then others will aswell. many thanks.
  21. manual says ip autofluid fr dot 4 to you or me.
  22. so, given everything a good clean and changed the fluid. Had a look at the clutch and someone has had a go at doing the clutch fix but just had a quick go at the plates. have given them a more thourough fettling. So after all of this its still the same. Then it hit me. This is the first 2 stroke i have owned in nearly 10 years. yes the engine may be warm but that doesnt mean the gearbox oil is warm does it!! a bit of clutch work and gentle riding later and its loads better so when its properly hot i dont forsee a problem. if there is i will take the above advice and put a slightly thinner oil in. school boy error me thinks.
  23. thanks for that. thats a genius way of changing the clutch fluid. i dont mind spending money on oils. have been sold for ages that its not worth scrimping on. current clutch fluid is like gravy so will start with the basics and work from there.
  24. Hi, i have just aquired a 1997 200 to learn on and when the clutch lever is fully pulled in the bike is still moving, so much that you cant select neutral. when its cold it wont even idle. The oil that was put in at the last service was mtl 80wt oil (never heard of it) i have had a fiddle with the clutch adjustment but still nothing. i suppose this is good in one way because my heart truly lies with twinshocks (my monty clutch is a lever to hang hemlets off) and pre 65's but i am spending so much time on my restorations that if i use it as a leaner and bin it i will cry and it is a given i will come off. lots. many thanks all. have just read the beta 250 clutch fix http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/28407-the-beta-clutch-fix/ interesting read. wondering if there is an easy option first before taking the clutch to bits.
