  1. Wouldn't it be a bigger jet for lower elevation? Never heard of going smaller at sea level
  2. Im going to order a few to try. It seems to me that the just above idle is running rich to me though. Plug shows rich also and i spend all my time below 1/4 throttle. Are you above sea level a ways with your jetting?
  3. Ok, dumb mistake. Apparently there are two jets that go around the needle. I was looking at the wrong one. The one in the bowl plug is 118. I'm going to try just dropping the needle for now.
  4. Ok thanks, just wanted a sanity check. Unbelievable! Do you have a recommended needle clip position to go with your recommended jet setup?
  5. I pulled my carb apart today. This is on my new to me 09 280 Eco with the PHBL26. The pilot was a 33, and the main was a 270. Needle was a D36 clip on second groove from bottom, slide is a 60. I was expecting the main to be in the 115 range. The 270 seems way out of spec. Is this correct? I have a hard time imagining someone putting in a jet that far off. The bike was definitely running rich. I never really opened the throttle much and have just been putting around though. Anyway, I'm at 4500' elevation. what do you guys think? Throw in a 115?
  6. That picture must be from a parallel universe where gasgas final drives are on the right
  7. I will add my vote to trials being harder than it looks. I think part of it is the top videos that come up in a search shows highly advanced riders so of course that's how I want to ride. Reality is quite a shock. Check out Exid brand for pants. They have something that looks a bit between the spandex and the motocross pants.
  8. Got the Reiger installed today. Bolted right in. Turns out my Eco had a Sachs shock installed. It appears to be blown with leaking oil. Might be from the exhaust but I don't think so. Going to take a closer look today with the spring off The bike feels much more lively.. Like completely different. Looking forward to going out later today to see how it feels for actual riding.
  9. Im planning on it. Id really like to accelerate my learning curve so events and training is my best bet. Doing my best in the mean time by getting familiar with the bike, and common techniques.. Even if I can't do em. Having a lot of trouble with good wheelie technique. I can get the front up and drop it where I want it, but balancing with the front in the air is eluding me. Last time out I was trying to wheelie while dragging my left foot. I'm going to try going in left circles next time. Maybe that will get me used to turning with the front up so I can do that instead of falling over. That and I realized I need a bit better clutch control so I can tread water while using holding pressure. I'm definitely learning something every time I go out but would be nice to have some experienced riders to help out.
  10. After much debate, I've come up with the following. The 2 main techniques are the Roll up, and the Zap, both of which use a double blip as part of the process. While this may seem a trivial thing, it does help me think about things while I'm riding. If I think I can get the back to roll up an obstacle, there is no reason to attemp rear wheel lift other than training for a zap.
  11. Interesting shot Lineaway, the cloud looks like a bird. Great place, I've been rock climbing there a bunch, but never on two wheels
  12. That must be a different product. The APT smartcarb is relatively new and has no affiliation with mikuni. Here is a link http://www.powerapt.com/index.php The billet versions are spendy, but the cast versions are around $400 USD if I remember correctly.
  13. How about the apt smartcarb? Similar to a lectron, uses a single metering rod instead of multiple circuits like a conventional carb. I've got one on my ktm and its a bit smoother than the stock carb. Apt claims that it atomizes fuel better than FI which results in more power and better fuel economy, and better for the envirment. They are closed circuit so they don't leak, and they automatically adjust for changes in atmosphere and air filter, etc. I still find myself adjusting the needle occasionally. Nice thing is, there is an adjuster on top of the carb, so it only takes seconds to "rejet" Anyone have them on their trials bike?
  14. Really.. No Donner next year? I was really looking forward to that
  15. I went out today and tried to slow it down a bunch. I kept getting the back tire up, and then falling back down the face. This is going to take some improved clutch technique I'm thinking.
  16. Stu at jacks cycles rebuilds reigers. I went ahead and bought the used Reiger. I'll report back when I get it.
  17. I've been riding around this area for years and never thought about how amazing it is until I bought a trials bike. I rode there yesterday and it's about as good as I can imagine. It actually looks even better up close Anyone care to come to Reno and give me some riding tips!
  18. The DB revisited... Its getting a little better. Starting to experiment with a touch of holding pressure. Still looks like I'm going too fast. That's as slow as I can go without clutching it. My gearing is at 10/41. Is that stock? Thinking about getting a 9 for the front
  19. Thanks for the offer, that is cheaper than i have found. I did commit to buy tge used reiger though so i will have to pass.
  20. How do you figure? 3.5" of rear sag and you suspect the front?A smaller front sprocket is on my list for sure. 9 or 10 tooth?
  21. I'm still leaning towards the used Reiger. I'm supposed to call the guy tonight. Stu at jacks cycles mentioned a rough $400 for the new linkage. I'm wondering if you need all the parts or just the dog bone parts? I might just try it the way it is. It's only one spring size softer than ideal considering the old linkage so might be okay. I'm sure anything is going to feel awesome compared to what it's like now
  22. Well, that video was my first 15 minutes ever on the bike. I thought it felt a bit soft. When I took a closer look I found the bump stop is torn and destroyed. Measuring my sag, it's at 3.5" and the preload is pretty tight so not sure how much more I could get. I know at some point the spring will "close" before you reach full travel. So at the very least I need a new spring and bump stop. My thought was that judging by the rest of the bike, the shock is probably fairly beat as far as the damper and the fluid. Also the stiction, I measured at 1/2". I measured by lifting the rear, letting it settle and taking a measurement, then do the same but compress first and let it settle. The difference in measurements is the stiction. 1/2" is terrible. Granted it may be in he linkage too but just another thing to consider. So back to the feel, if I jump hard on it at a stand still it bottoms. When I push on the center of the bike the rear drops way more than the forks so it's unbalanced also. I also feel like I want a bit more rebound to get more action out of the rear. Back to options, does anyone have any feedback on the adjustable olle? I've read some posts that mention no difference is noticeable when making adjustments. If that's the case than probably not worth $100 over the basc model. Even though I'm a beginner I'm fairly sensitive to how the bike feels and really want something adjustable so I can tune to taste.
  23. Ok, I'm still looking at more options and my head is spinning so here is a summary of where I'm at. Your input is very much appreciated. I don't mind spending a bit of extra money to upgrade but just want to make sure what I'm doing makes sense. Options 1) cheapest Olle non adjustable - $300 2) adjustable Olle - $400 3) Sachs - can't find a price 4) Ohlins with single adjuster - $850 5) TRP - $850 6) new Reiger with single adjuster - a bit over $1000 7) used Reiger for about $500 but I would need a new spring $160 to compensate for my old style linkage. What do you guys think? Is it possible to buy a new set of dog bones to change to the new linkage? If it's around $160 would offset the cost of a new spring. Not sure if the swing arm is compatible.
  24. How about where to get a Sachs replacement shock? Anyone have an idea how much they run? I'm leaning towards the used Reiger becuase I think I can get it for 5 or 600 us. That's cheaper than the ohlins and as stated I'm a beginner so won't know the difference if it's not the raga model. Once again my olle shock is shot and I need a replacement. Since I have to replace it my brain will not allow me to put in a low spec unit so please refrain from advising me to leave it and buy new tires
