  1. There are exceptions, but it seems to me that most of the world champions in all the two wheeled sports are of a slender build. There's a reason it's called an athletic build. For your average riders, I would hazard a guess that skill and determination trump weight any day.
  2. The Sidis arrived today. Revzilla shipping is ridiculously fast! They fit well and seem to be well made. I do wish they had a bit more armor around the ankles. I'm wondering if the sidi discovery rain boots would have been better.
  3. Very good advice. Just understanding the mechanics of how this works is my goal for now. I believe how you think about things like this will have an impact on everything you do on the bike.
  4. That's a great specimen there. I wish they had left the audio in. It's going to take some amount of courage to convince myself to drive the front straight into the side of a rock face like that.
  5. Yes, that's one of the best I've come across. The RY dvd's are on my list of things to buy
  6. Ok, so what I'm getting for differences is the following.. 1) front tire is aimed lower on the obstacle. 2) compress both ends as much as possible 3) more throttle combined with a clutch dump 4) distinct possibility of nut crushage.
  7. Haha, I might be wise enough to do that in a few years
  8. This won't take much effort as I don't know much about mx
  9. I just came across this... http://www.trialsuk.co.uk/products/toni-bou-techniques-of-riding-dvd It looks like Tony does indeed have a technique DVD available. Has anyone seen this? The preview is pretty much worthless.
  10. I would have thought there would be a thread on this already but my search came up with nothing so I thought it would be good to start a discussion. I've watched everything I can find on both of these techniques as well as read through threads when I can find them and I am still very unclear on what a zap is and how it differs from the db. The db makes perfect sense to me. I can see how it functions and have seen it in slow motion. The zap from what I can tell is basically a db on steroids. More throttle with a clutch drop in the second blip. I have read somewhere that it is important to turn off the power as the rear wheel contacts the obstacle. If this is the case is it just momentum that gets you up the last part or do you feather a bit of throttle back in? Anyway if someone that has both techniques dialed and can give some detail it would be great.
  11. For better or worse I went with the Sidis because I found em on sale.
  12. I agree, I did mean a few previews. I'll be buying both to clear my conscious
  13. Thats too bad, it seems like a good idea but if its not a sticky compound than i dont understand what the point of it is.
  14. I just came across this. It looks a bit like the golden tire but closser spaced knobs http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1018951
  15. Ok, well looking at some pictures it looks like Bou wears Astars, Raga wears Sidis. It can be done!
  16. Yes, they have a trials specific boot. They look a bit more like an mx boot and it sounds like they trade off a bit of feel for protection. I guess the thing to look for is whether any of the top pros use this style. At least I would know it possible to ride at a high level with them.
  17. That's about what I feared. Ok you have convinced me to stay away from the thinner type boots. So how about the TCX or SIDIS compared to the Astars? They appear to have similar protection. The problem is there's nowhere nearby to try these on. I know sidis have a reputation for being a bit thin, and I wanted to buy the crossfires for mx and it was true that my foot was cramped for width. Is this true with the trials boot too?
  18. Hi all, I know there is a ton of threads about boots and I've read most of em, but still have some questions. Lots of people seem to like the gaerne oiled boots for their feel and comfort. Can someone comment on the amount of protection offered? Is there some internal ankle protection built in? Does not look like much. I'm also considering the forma. These look very similar. Can someone comment on the protection of the formas vs the gaerne? Also considering the alpinestars, the sidis, and the TCX. These seem to be a bit closer to the mx boots I'm used to. Coming from mx I'm thinking any of these are going to feel very light to me. Any feedback on the TCX boots? Lastly as a person just starting trials with an mx / enduro back ground, would you recommend going with a boot with more feel to help learn, or more protection to help not get hurt?
  19. I am going to go ahead and request a tony Bou instructional video So I found a link to how to do this on a bicycle. Just how difficult is this? I've not been to a local event yet. Is this something I would see the upper classes doing at a local club event? Very anxious to get my bike and start trying some of this stuff (obviously not the wheelie hop, just curious). Another week looks like
  20. Well it's good advertising to have some on there. It certainly makes me want to see everything I can find from him. I'll probably end up ordering the both.
  21. Of course. Kind of funny since I bought the trials bike to help me with my mx bike.
  22. I've done a bit of searching and looks like this has been covered before. It appears that either method might be appropriate depending on conditions. A more useful question would be, what method is recommended when learning to do this. It seems like the brake is more straight forward, but then hopping with your foot stuck to the brake pedal seems like it might be tough also
  23. Is this available for purchase in an iPad friendly format anywhere?
  24. I've been watching some video of Tony Bou and it occurred to me how amazing he is at hopping on his back wheel. What I'm wondering is, when you are hopping in wheelie position, but staying in place, say maybe just spinning around, is he on the gas and feathering the clutch or just the back brake?
  25. Would you recommend one in particular? I've watched all the RY YouTube and also the other series posted in the technique forum here on TC. Is there one worth buying?
