BD - I think you have to strip them down. I certainly couldn't think of any other way. Beware that they can be a royal pain to get the old ones out. On my 200 it still had the original ones in which had welded themselves to the forkleg. In the end I had to take them to Birketts and it took Kev 2 hrs to get them out, and iIthink that involved soaking them overnight in something (at least, that's what I was charged!). Good luck!
Hi, in the long run it is best to strip them down and give a good clean, it is an easy job and shouldn't take too long possibly an hour or so at the most.
If it wasn't such a pile of **** then I would be on it, getting a new ally exhaust, just repainted all the frame, will be ready to ride again in a few weeks. Been to busy working on the Ariel lately to be messing around with jap crap.
I told you when you bought it "you get what you pay for" next Border trial May 25th !!!!
The best thing about a TLR200 is the slow throttle response, thats why they grip so well, as the power is delivered so smoothly.
I have the original Honda one and it's fine.
What bike have you just come off before riding a TLR?
Bo dont listen to the Blurter he never has his bike out the shed!!! get yourself a slow action domino side pull jobbie (Black) or an AMAL20/50 side pull jobbie and a venhill nylocable to suit , you will never look back!
Just noticed the seller on ebay" hondartl "removed his listings again before the auction ended, this is a common practice from this blagger, so any future genuine Honda riders needing parts i would not waste your time bidding on the guys items he just says they sold outside of the auction blah blah, the items usually go on when it's a free listing day!!!
Has anyone else noticed this i also seem to remember he is a member of our site!! not good eh!
Throw the thing in the bin!! If you attempt to weld the casing it has a 99% of distortion also coils live inside there so extremley tight for space, the moral of the story apply a bit more care when working on those cherished bikes.
Ellastone will have one, a friend bought one recently
Try Stuart Brown BPS-ENG.COM he makes these seat and tank units with petrol caps and seat pad, All the frenchies and spanish buy from him . Look at his web sit as above or try 0033 6 87 38 35 30 he does lots of other trick bits for the Honda as well........
Hi i can recommend Stuart as his tanks are well better than the classic trial units
I need to change the front and rear rims on my TLR/RS (winter re-build) i fancy Blue anodised and also possibly change over to tubeless type, can anyone offer advise where to get the rims from and is it worth changing to Tubeless type.
Well according to my front wheel rim it was made 08 1985.
And I'm going to do the valve stem seals, I have found out it's not the carb , not the coil and not the ht lead , so must be either the cdi or the rotor pick up.
Good lad so now you have a 1985 Honda tlr 200 Blurter!!
Whats the best way to find out what year a TLR200 is ?
Hi, a good little trick is to check the side of the wheel rim, sometimes the date or year is stamped on them, and have you got that rattly old nail running properly yet ( you only get what you pay ) ha ha slipps
Simon, nice job you are doing but what will happen is this;- you will finish your bike and then see another one somewhere with a better job than yours and THIS will do your head in keep up the good work!

It appears quite nice but on further investigation it is obviously a cocked up old knocker probably like it's owner!!!!
