Hello Xerotti.
I'm a trials rider from Colombia, we have had a long tradition here in motorcycle trials, and we are very active nowadays in trials. In the large cities like Bogota or Medellin, we have 40 riders each citie.
We are actually a very close "brotherhood" here in Latin-America, and we have arrange latin american championships and competitions together.
Countries which are active nowadays in trials are: Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, CostaRica, El Salvador, and Mexico is showing up lately...
We try to have trials clinics with top riders on a regular basis, specially spaniards... Jordi Pascuet was in Colombia past August..
Good to hear there is still a trials candle flaming held by you in Argentina....! You are welcome to join us anytime..!! And to be part of this latinamerica brotherhood we have..!!
We are trying to bring a LATINAMERICAN team to compete at the TDN this year...
Dont be discourage if you find moto trials hard at the begining... Once you past this first learning curve you are going to be hooked for LIFE and you would never be the same again... I would assure that by experience...!
Here are the link of the latest latin trials gathering held in BRAZIL....

I have wrote to the technical department of sherco to find out what might be happening... Today I'm going to check if the T bypass fuel line is open and not clogged... I'm going to lower even more the float level also to see if that could improve this behavior.
-
Since I live in Colombia we dont have any dealer as such, this is why I'm trying to reach for help.
This bike has the 2014 "t" fuel line modification already done in the assembly line....
I have done what this old posts recommends, however this bike continues to behave the same way, stalling when going downhills, so I was desperate to really get a diagnosis and solve this problem before I got desperate...!
Any others owners of 2014 shercos have this problem also...?
Is this endemic to all shercos with this fuel pump overflowing the carb when going downhills..?
-
Hello
I'm writing you to ask for any lights as to what is going on with my brand new sherco 2014 3.0.
When I'm going downhill, I notice the engine slow down at idle to the point at quiting sometimes. I follow the recommendation described in splatshop.com regarding to float level with no avail. I notice stock floats level where pretty low so i raised as per splatshop.com recommendation, however this bike continues to die at idle when going downhill.
Please let me know what should I do in order to solve this carb issue.
Thanks a lot for your help.

keep us informed how it performs...

Hello..
This topic has been covered in more detail here...
here
hope it helps...

In my sherco it starts oK... I havent heard problemsa with that...
maybe changing to a larger starter jet or drilling i guess...
regarding pinging after a full throttle,..yes that seems due to a small valve...
try changing for a 270 or 300m and problem solved...

Sherco and montesa have tested this carb under heavy competition... back in 2002-2003, and 2004 so its realiability is proven...
this is a picture of a 2002 sherco with the VHST (Freixas Sherco)... this pic was extracted from Jose Maria Blanco web page... http://www.terra.es/personal9/marlintec/taller/ ....this page is for us, "the bible" of the VHST, check it out... without this page and Jose Ma advice through todotrial forums, I wouldnt dare to try the VHST on my sherco.... Thanks a lot Jose Maria!!!.
This is Fuligas 315r bike(Dougies also fitted one of those..), take a look at the DellOrto sticker in the air filter box... this carb was champion of the world 2 or 3 times..!!
Regards...

One more comment..
you will need a larger filter rubber hose (38-40 mms diameter), there are some guys in spain that took the stock sherco filter hose rubber out and fitted it backwards (just reverse it..) in order for the rear of the carb to fit in the air filter, ie. the larger diameter faces the carb and the small one fits in the air filter. I had a keihin so I had a previosly rubber that I got from a local car parts warehouse, that fitted perfect..
Yes, at sea level pilots should be between 30-34, mains between 120-125
pilot jets are special for the VHST (are longer like keihin type) make sure to order a couple of those..., but the other VHST parts are interchangeable with the PHBL.. ie. mains, needle, diffusors, bowl, floats etc...
One last advice...
Try it first as it comes from the box... just try it, one step at a time.. first change piltos jets, then mains and if it runs ok, you dont need to change the valve, if you are noticing some strange behaviors at idle, (sometimes rich, sometimes poor), then think in trying swaping the 200 stock valve.. be patient, that way you

Ok... let me explain some important points.
Ideally, if you are going to order this carb, is better to buy it with the new upgrades... HOWEVER....My carb (and many others) is the old type VHST (Jose Marias also), that doesnt means, those are faulty carbs... the old design worked great also, only some units have a poor valve craftsmanship (in the valve that controls the inflow of gasoline to the bowl)... this can be corrected just by swapping this valve from the stock PHBL to the VHST, and it works fine... the ideal number of this valve should be from 250 to 300...
the valve that comes stock with the "old" VHST is number 200... (that is 2 mms diameter), however in extensive test made in spain, this valve seems to be very small for this model... therefore almost everybody have swapped it for the 250 that comes stock in the PHBL. the ideal number appers to be 300, as a matter of fact, in the new VHST (silver levers), it comes 300 stock!!!... this confirms that the ideal valve needs to be 300, however my VHST have the 250 that comes with the PHBL, and it runs fine whatsoever!!
This is the "old" model... the little levers that action the floats are golden brass....
This is the new model with the silver levers... take a look at the 300 valve

I have it stock.... exhaust, cable, manifold rubber spacer, ignition timing etc... is stock.
the VHST fits straight in..you dont have to cut the trottle cable, however you have to force it in the intake manifold (apply a considerable force for the carb to pop inside!!!...)if you wont machine it.
We prefer to machine it, and not to force it because of the risk of damaging the intake manifold rubber...
Another consideration to have in mind is that you need to specify when ordering, that the carb you are needing is a 2 stroke VHST carb... this is because the VHST is used in 4 stroke also (sherco 3,2 4t, and scorpas 4t), the 4t model has the "brass diffuser" shorter, see below... this will have a modest effect at idle so you will need a larger pilot jet, the 2t model has it larger (7mm), so the pilot needs to be smaller because the carb will have more mix at idle (ventury effect).... this is explained by Jose Maria Blanco in forums and in his web page in detail... we call this part in spanish as
-
I forgot..
in todotrial forums yu can read that Paxau indeed, in his oficial workshop in spain, has fitted some shercos with the VHST.... if you want more predictable and powerfull lows this is the carb for you...
Marlintec (Jose Maria Blanco) who is a very brilliant guy with a long tradition in trials (from spain) also have compared the VHST with the Keihin and we have notice as everybody have it, a crisper, powerful, and controlable response in lows...
personally, I
-
It fits straight in (in shercos)... however the intake "neck" of this carb ie. the one that goes inside the intake manifold, should be reduced 2-3 mms for a proper fit. maybe with a special grinder or something, (I just sent it out to a metal machining place and they did it in minutes.).
The response I inmidately notice over my Keihin was a more powerful and crisp response in lows as others VHST users have noticed...,
Keihin is "flatter" in lows compared to my VHST, but in highs keihin has a highest reving due to its 28 mms bore..., however is almost unnoticeable for my riding...
hope it helps..
good luck, you wont be disappointed...
-
Yes I have it in my sherco 2,9 2005...
a great improvement over the PHBL stock carb, indeed better than my keihin in lows (unbeatable lows), also deliivers more grunt at lows... by far the best mod i have ever made to my sherco...
the story behind this carb was very interesting..., this carb was made specifically for trials, montesa made a partnership with dellorto in order to develop a competition carb for its 315r trials bike back in 2002... however as everybody knows, this carb came as stock in 2003 gasgas pro models... for any reason, the early series of this carb came with a faulty gas valve(a craftsmanship defect..) , which is the one that controls the level of the bowl and floats, therefore it was almost impossible to get a good idle (behaves sometimes rich, and sometimes poor at idle).. thats why almost any gasgas pro 2003 user swap it for the keihin,
...so the VHST was charged with a very bad reputation among the trials community...
DellOrto figured this out and in latter series they corrected this... now it has an improved desigend valve, with a higher (bigger) valve, allowing more bowl flow...
you can read more about this in this pages... (in spanish though...)
