Noobie here....... Just purchased an '04 315R stock chain and sprockets are ready for replacement. Most off-road/MX chains appear to be too heavy for the trials bikes. I'd prefer to run a non o-ring chain for weight and reduced drag. I'm looking at the Regina EBXL 135. What do you use and why? Thanks!

I've been using the Ultimate MX Hauler for a couple years now. Very convenient for the most part. I've hauled my KTM 640 LC4, KTM 200EXC, and Montesa 315R with it. I also have a trailer but prefer the UMXH for long-haul trips with one bike. It's also a good way to haul a fourth bike if you have a larger pickup. Ultimate MX Hauler website

How does the bike perform in your opinion? Does it foul the plug? If it isn't broke you might not want to fix it. Too rich is better than too lean. I don't have any experience with Montesa or trials bike jetting, but my guess would be your pilot is a little rich, or the needle taper for your riding style is a little rich. My '04 has soot fouled the 6 heat range plug twice in the 6 weeks I've owned it, I ride in a small area so I don't get a chance to really clean it out. The performance off the bottom is good, so I'll live with the occational fouling. The fouling occured with 92 octane fuel, I just switched to 98 octane blend which may resolve the problem. Ran the first tank through it last night and there is a worth while increase throttle response and a definate decrease in the decel pinging which quiet's the exhaust note. Next gas run I'll blend to 100 octane. My fuel screw is 2 3/4 turns out, the temp is 70* F, medium humidity, altitude is 440'.

Barney, I'm new to trials and just bought an '04 315R as my first bike a few weeks ago. I couldn't be happier, the bike has very docile manners yet very capable in my opinion. The quirks compared to my KTM 2-stroke are you need to run 98-100 octane fuel and the Elf transmission oil isn't inexpensive.

Beyond octane issue - Can anyone elaborate on using unleaded vs. leaded race gas in a two-stroke motor?

I've had the pleasure of damaged rib 5 or 6 times. Last bout was in August, front and back..........6 weeks is the average. Sorry to hear it, they're one of the more annoying injuries.

kbell - The motor likes around 98. Around here 100 unleaded and 110 leaded are the same price ($6.75 gal) 1.5 gal of 110 with 3.5 gal of 92 produces 97.4 oct. or $4.45 a gallon.
