for our Nationals, we still use continuous ribbon on each side of the section, using cards only to mark splits for all the different classes. I agree, simpler is way better!
Congrats Pat you get so "lucky". It looks like they ran support on the clubman line whats up with 1/2 the riders under 10 points Ill bet Rohrschniieder is p****d. Who wants to take a week off spend $1000s and ride AROUND every big rock /I hope the loop was at least challenging. C
Why don't you Wisconsin boys put on a National and show us all how to do it. It's only been 30 years since your club put one on.
Those top 2 guys are so far ahead of the pack its unreal. Makes setting the course very challenging ,as on the 2nd day it was a stunningly simple day for them yet plenty of riders over 100 . Without the shootout having something to really challenge them it was way too low of scores to win with.
Getting points from Pat, Cody or any top rider on super grippy rocks is a very hard thing to do.
Those guys with over 100 points on Saturday and over 150 on Sunday should ride Expert. They only had handful 3's and fived everything else. They would probably have more fun in expert too.
Perhaps a west coast and east coast championship series, best 3 out of 5 events would qqualify you for a 3 event one weekend National championship
Im not suggesting we need to replace the natc series with another format, just think that it would help if there were more regional series like the Central Regionals and the PNTA and the NATC could help create/promote it.
Why ? There is already a Central Regional championship. If you want a regional series get with the clubs in your area say east or west coast or where ever your from and get one started, it works wonderfully. The Central Regional in my area consist of 5 two day events 2 before summer and 3 after summer. Works great as it helps the clubs and you don't have to ride all the events.
since the natc nationals are only for guys that can afford the time and money to drive all over creation should the natc create a regional series to fill the gap between club trials and the nats?
Mike, If you fix the Bultaco you will have a piece of trials history. If you put the Yamaha motor in it you will own a ******* that nobody wants. Can you post photos of the Bultaco?
The Matador was not a very good trials mount back in 1966. It stands to reason that the same would be true today. Get a proper vintage trials bike and your enjoyment will increase. The old Sherpas were very good bikes.
After Cody's domination last year, Pat's comeback this year seems all the more impressive. Glad to see 2 very talented men fighting it out at the top. Its been a long time in the NATC Series when you couldn't predict the winner.
Too bad neither one will be representing the USA at the TdN.
I get sick of this thread and ones like them because:
We do NOT need a world round. We dont even have a competitor at that level.
Our freaking organization in the usa, cant (apparently for 30 some years) even stipulate basic rules, Example:
1. Class structures, for one.
Intermediat is expert is novice, depending what part of the USA you live in.
2. Course (section) marking and rules.
Some clubs wanna ride this way, that way, shipts! I saw flags at some trials for boundries, who the hell uses flags anymore?
3. sandbagger movement
all but the pro class, seem to have a theory about national competitions, that theory is "I'll pick a class that I think I have more than a 80% chance of winning. This is apposed to the ideal that everyone that rides "expert" level would get to the nationals to see who is the top expert. But there is the problem, (see #1) what exactly is expert
Who the hell cares? motocross used the be inexpensive sport, you spent what you felt you needed to on your bike. not anymore, entry fees have skyrocketed, you have to be in AMA, track members, amongst lots of other things, which costs money... Which then is confiscated so in the end all we accomplish is, we support some overpriced sodapop or energy drink, that apparently hasnt figured out that there is an economic crissis in the usa, and just again raised the prices on their products, all at the time where the whole damn country is screaming bloody "uncle" with higher taxes, higher cost of living, and no goddamn jobs...
Yep, my vote practically and selfishly is... keep it a "turd" as Ishy says...
Well wait, actually to me it is more like keep it a "Baby Ruth" (caddyshack reference) To the uninitiated it Looks like a turd, and can clear a pool, but we know it really is good.
Well you are just a ray of sunshine, aren't you?
In an effort to erase part of your ignorance: the NATC has never proposed to control trials at the club level, their rules and organization only apply to the National Series.
I think the only way we can get a World Round back in the States is if the FIM gets rid of the rule requiring promoters to foot the hotel bills. Or if Trials becomes popular in the US, (highly unlikely) and ticket sales can offset the cost. Japan has rounds every year and it is much farther but they have a huge audience of ticket buyers. Big audiences also brings money from sponsors. It's too much of a niche sport here.
The amount of spectators at the 2006 World Round at TTC was good, but in 2008 the numbers seemed down due to the recession and with today's high gas prices it seems like a losing proposition for any promoter.
No disrespect but its that thinking that has us stuck without a WR. FIM is not going to change this rule so it is up to US to change how we put on a WR. Hoping for the spectators to cover the costs will not do it anymore.
Japans WR has a major sponsor...Honda. The track, Motegi is owned by Honda. There are hotels onsite so they can cover the FIM hotel needs.
So maybe we need to find an event sponsor (Monster, Lucas Oil...) to cover up front costs or a location that can donate some rooms, like Donner or Taos or Whistler.
