  1. hi Nick

Did you order the stickers direct from the website or did you get them from Lampkins?

Following on from the Cambridge trial last Sunday the jets in my carb are 27.5 pilot jet

    145 main jet.

    Tone

Hello mate, got them from Lampkins directly.

Cheers for info on jets. will get a set ordered.

    Nick

  2. just had a look around the berko site and have realised who you are.

don't think i'll be out this weekend - going to see if i've fixed the beta at nash instead.

    are you rider berko rd3?

    jack h

    Who knows?? when/where is it?

  3. The 04 Raga should have 550ml from complete empty, about 500ml needed when re-filling.

Now i am confused The first gas gas i was around was my sons 03 200 when we got it the clutch would creep all over the place. I had the book recomended 525 ml someone sugested i run 350 cc that fixed the problem. Ive been running about 380cc in all my pros which brings up maybe another topic all together, how much oil?

Ahhh the eternal - how much oil to put in my Gas Gas question.

Firstly ignore the book - especially on a 2004 Raga Rep.

550ml is way too much and can lead to crank case leaks which are horribly hard to stop. GG UK deny the problem but I have heard and experienced (took me 5 attempts to stop mine leaking) of at least 3 or 4 2004 Raga Reps leaking oil from the crank casing even though there is no pressure in the system.

The figure given by most people 'in the know' is 450ml

When draining, ensure the bike and oil is HOT (ideally as soon as you turn off after a trial), that way when you drain it it will be very thin and will all drain easily. If the oil is not hot then it will be thicker and you could easily get an additional 50-60ml that does not drain. So if you then put 450ml in you will have too much again.

What I always did was - put in 400ml, lean bike over a few times to let the oil spread, check the oil level in the window - should be about half way up, ride the bike for 5 or so minutes then check the window again and if necessary put in upto an additional 50ml.

You should then have no problems - hopefully :D

  4. not sure if i'll be there

ive hurd its a nightmare in the wet so if the weather doesnt change i'll go practicing at nash

do you ride reguerly for berko nick?

    jack h

It's proper 'orrible and snotty when wet!!

Not as much as I'd like - thats having kids for ya though!! prob out every 2-3 weeks

  5. Just having a look at the Beta website and see they have got two new "special" bits availble for the 07 rev 3 and rev 4t HERE right at the bottom the sticker kit looks very nice for the 4t perhaps? if you haven't already got a nice Radycool set on of course :D

Can't totally figure the handle bar protection jobby out mind? would that sit on the clamps? instead of say a Jitsie type pad that comes with their bars?

Got the sticker kit last week - look REALLY GOOD on the bike

pricey but good, especially if like me you like your bike o look a bit different to everyone else's

Agree with you re: the handlebar bit - looks like a dumbell to me...

  6. ... there is a red rear mudguard rev4 riding around in these parts. Not sure if that is still the case. I asked John Lampkin for a set of rev4 plastics as Barry wanted to go that route on his new rev3, but was told... not yet. But come the next bike delivery batch that may well change...

When you say 'next batch' is that not 2008??

  7. ... 06 plastics but with the repsol 07 graphics applied. 07 beta tank graphics, black pro-taper bars and carbon fork guards with the repsol stickers on top. Also got v-force3 reed kit and carb mods etc and thinner base gasket and the timing advanced a bit. Lovely off the bottom end now.

Slight variation on the subject - but still about Beta's in black.

    Does anyone know

    1: Do the 4 stroke Beta Rev4 plastics fit a 2007 Rev3?

2: Are the Rev4 plastics available yet?

  8. Hi Carl I'm pretty sure we got the culprit out from the idle jet. Spent about 45 minutes on Sunday afternoon - cleaning, blowing through, spraying the idle jet etc etc.

    Started it - ran perfect.

Went to start today - nothing, looked at plug - very wet. Put different plug in and it fired up on 4-5 kick and ran spot on instantly.

Will remove, clean, air and oil the filter tomorrow though and have a thorough inspection of the actual air box to see if I can see anything.

Will have a look at the choke jet to see if I do have a 60 and order a 70 and 80 to see what happens.

Sorry am not sure whether it is a R9354 or R9359. How do I find out? Had Keihins on last couple of Gassers and never had a problem.

  9. Cheers nickday

I will certainly keep an eye out for second hand ones. I was pretty set on getting one after reading all Ralphs reports. Hopefully you can sort yours out, since he seems very happy with his

I love it (for small periods - the 7 sections it rode nicely for were great) and really want to sort it.

If not you can have mine...

  10. Nick, could be the wrong jet or jets in it, ralphs dellorto has been faultless for months now and he doesnt clean it out as much as the Mikuni. His starts easy from cold or hot and I am pretty sure he just drains the bowl every ride rather than blowing the carb out. He does use a Jitsie filter and seals the lid with tape to reduce the **** getting in. Hes not riding for a couple of weeks after sunday so I will see if I can borrow it and have a look for you inside re jet sizes, needle heights etc.

Cheers for this, really dont want to go back to the Mikuni now after I know how good the Dellorto is.

As I mentioned above I have a BP5RES plug in now with a S37 pilot jet. When I first put the carb on the S40 would not run 100%, , however this was with the standard spark plug in it.

Now I have a BP5RES would it be worth trying the S40 again and trying to fine tune again - could this be the differentiator???

Might have a look into a Jitsie air filter as well.........

  11. HI Nickday..

If you dont mind me asking..how much was the Dellorto, and where from??...Im thinking of getting one for my Beta, coz I just cant seem to get it running sweet with the Mikuni..I know its probably my lack of skill with carbs, but it would be nice to spend less time fettling and more time riding.

    cheers

I got it 2nd hand from ebay, however you can buy them brand new from <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> road & trials for

  12. Hi all.

I now have the Dellorto carb on and when the bike is running it is very very nice.

My biggest issue is that it WILL NOT start when cold.

On Sunday at the trial I was in, it probably took 20 kicks to get it running. Once it has ran (even for a few seconds) it starts on the button every time. But when it's cold - NOTHING!!

I went and started it at lunchtime today and same thing - NOTHING

Swapped plug over (new NGK BP5ES) and the one that came out was wet, put another one in and it started 5th kick.

It seems to me that there is excess fuel in the crank, I thought this last week so ran the bike dry before packing ot away however still not happening.

Has anyone else expereinced this at all with a Dellorto Carb??

I wanted rid off the Mikuni so that the bike would a) run nicer and  start uphill/downhill etc etc but this is a pain.

    Cheers

  13. Sounds like a great mod to the bike nick, I recomend using one of these on the bike -

    060004.jpg

    Was tempted!!

The monkies @ *** (shop I bought from) shipped it without a pilot jet....................

Now got one, put them in running great!! just need to learn how to ride these Beta thingies!!

  14. I believe it's possible, I hear that Maria Conway runs a Keihin on hers - not sure whats needed or how easy it is to fit.

I have (finally) finished putting a Dellorto on my '07 270 - would have been done last Monday but the shop that sold me it on ebay decided to ship it without a pilot jet!!!!!!!!!

Anyway. it's now in and it sounds and runs soooo different, tonnes of extra grunt right of the bottom, much more responsive and lighter throttle - PLUS no more fuel ****ing out everywhere when facing downhill....

Trial on Sunday so will see how it runs when used in anger.

If a Keihin does go on I'm sure it will be great, if not the Dellorto is HIGHLY recommended (so long as it ships complete!!!)

  15. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Been putting this on this afternoon - got it on relatively easily BUT................

It will not run at all, played with float levels etc etc still will not run - it kicks over then dies.

Took it apart and it appears to be missing the jet that goes just in front of the needle jet - hence wont run!

Can someone please advise what jet I need to get for this???

Cheers from a very annoyed Nick....

  16. Yes you will find it much easier if you turn the airbox rubber around as said above.

I also changed the fuel pipe to one that fits the dellorto and then wired it on to the filter with grip wire, but left the original pipe on to the filter from the tank.

This is a tricky job, but it can be done without taking off the midbox in about ten minutes.

First off - put plenty 2 stroke oil on the carb and on both the inlet manifold and the airbox rubber boot.

Then fit the carb into the inlet manifold (reed block) but at the same time you need to hold the airbox rubber back so that the side of the rubber catches the left hand side of the carb inlet. I then hook the airbox rubber with a 3mm allen key and slide the airbox rubber on. Then check the airbox rubber is on all the way around with your finger. Finally fit the jubilee clip by opening it out completely and threading it around the back of the carb making sure you dont catch the brake pipe. It sounds complicated but once you get used to it it is straightforward!

But is is very sore on the backs of your fingers!

    cheers

Cheers for this info, much appreciated.

Am liking the sound of 10 minutes, although I'msure that it will take me longer as this will be first time playing with a Beta - Am used to Gas Gas, half the work already done for you with them as most of the screws/bolts/nuts already loose or fallen off

  17. Beleive me Nick it is worth it, I spoke to Ralph yesterday and he said he still takes the mid box out to refit it but not the header. Seems excessive but its near impossible to get it on without doing so or taking hours ( I know) If you have nt already done so the air box boot is larger air box side, swap it over so the air box side is now the carb side, makes things alittle easier. I have always removed the reed block spacer on my rev 3's to get more room getting the carb off and on, not tried it with an 07 though, might be worth trying. Ralphs biggest concern was the carb getting dirty and running ***** as posted on here from a few riders. This hasnt happened once since he bought it months ago. He doesnt really clean it that often either so putting it back on isnt a weekly job as with the Mikuni sometimes. You might need a larger jubillee clip for the boot as well? Ralph has, not 100% why though and I think the fuel pipe is just pushed on rather than having a securing clip like the Mikuni. Hopefully he will post tonight with any tips to make things easier, but once on you will wonder why Beta dont fit these as standard? they would sell more bikes I recon.

Cheers for this, will def make this a Monday afternoon job then....

  18. Nick, have you got the bugger on yet? do you have any hair left? are you knuckles a bit sore? are there any plasters left in the medi kit? did you give up after 3 hours and stick the leaky thing back on and said f*** it?

Hope it went ok mate, ahhhhh how I laughed getting Ralphs Dellorto on mine last Xmas

Hi, no only picked it up from Post Office depot yesterday and not attempted it - yet.

Waiting for tips and advsie from Ralph, however after seeing your comments am wandering if it's gonna be worth it....... Will have a go after the weekend hopefully as n time before!!

If anyone can offer me time/skin saving advise n fitting a Dellorto, please let me kno...

    Cheers

  19. Cheers Ralph, am hoping I have the same joy from the Dellorto as you have.

It arrived this afternoon, so will try and get it on this week before I ride at the weekend so any advise & tips you can offer that will save
