  1. Excellent.

So i can get a day licence when i'm there. How much is it?

I can enter on the day. How much is that?

Is there anything i need to bring, besides the obvious toolkit. Any documentation/I.D.

Is there anything i need to do to the bike? Any scrutinering etc?

If i'm wrong about anything please tell me.

    I appreciate all the help.

    Thanks guys.

  2. Hi,

I have heard about a trial in Lindale, Cumbria (Westmorland Motor Club) this sunday but cant find details of it on the event list.

    Does anyone have any details?

Also, this would be my first trial. What do i need to do/know? Do i just turn up on my bike and have a go or do i need to apply for some kind of license or something first?

    Any advice greatfully accepted.

    Sorry for the dumb questions.

    Marcus

  3. aye no panic on wheeels hopefully some of the guys over here wil ahve a set lying around,as for the seatcover someone owes me a favour and just happens to be a pro upholsterer,so might have to call in the favour lol, cause i aint makin a B*****ks of it

Your seat cover might not be so bad. My problem was that my bike had a supercross seat fitted which has a taller foam on it and my seat cover was a motorcross one. I had a mate do it too, I know he really struggled.

What year is your CR? do you know? If you give me a frame number i can tell you if you like.

You should ditch the standard expansion chamber, They really slow it down. I have a FMF gnarley which is good for mid range power. I know that Dep do some good pipes if you want it really peaky and all your power at the top BUT they are a bit fragile and the one i had kept cracking just from vibrations after a while.

  4. NICE CR!

almost finished mne in motox trim, hope to get some 17 inch wheels and bits later once i get a run on this thing, never ridden 1 b4!

    Nice.

    Is that a 93?

Good luck getting the seat cover fitted, Mine was a real swine to do.

If your in the u.k. Talon engineering are the place for having 17" rims fitted to your hubs (costs about

  5. I've got a KTM 640 Supermoto at the moment and when I see most bikes I've either had one, had simlar, or just plain never been interested (goldwings/harleys spring to mind).

But....I think I could get used to that CR500 - looks neat.

The KTM is a bit of a bugger to kick, not helped by being a left hand kickstart. It's a big old cylinder to turn over, but....thankfully, it's electric start (if you catch it right before the battery goes).

Thanks. I enjoy riding it more than any other bike ive had. You can pick up a basic conversion for about

  6. Reminds me of the old XT500 where you had to lean it to both sides, give it a couple of girlie kicks, get the silver disc in the window, say three hail mary's, put one hand on your head, give it ten monster kicks, then bump start the ****in thing

Didnt the XT500 have a decompression lever? My mate has a SR500 (same engine) and that has one. You dont have to lean it over but you do need to girlie kick it then get the thing in the window, mess about with the lever then one stout kick and its away.

I start the CR easily and im not a big bloke. 5'7 and 13 stone. Mine is ported so the decompression scollops in the exhaust port have been removed but if you get a standard one that has them then that makes it easier too. You just have to be committed.

  7. Crikey - that picture was life-size!!!

Nice bike though, you've done some serious work on that puppy!

I'm kinda toying with the idea of picking up an old'un and restoring it back to stock Honda trim - for that mid eighties look. Might have to pick up some supermotos for a bit of a grin too!

Had some lads motox'ing in a field near ours today, went to watch with my lad and his friend looked great fun! They were all on 125s and 250s... all laughed when I said I was toying with the idea of a CR500! Wishing me good luck getting it started! - We're / are they really THAT bad???

    Cheers - Matt.

Thanks hop blip, its a 1997 but the engine is a mix of 97 and 89 parts as the 89's had more power.

Yes Boner they have a terrible reputation but if you know "how" to start them its quite simple. First trick is when they are cold lean the bike over until a bit of fuel leaks out of the carb. Then you give it two ladies kicks just to get the fuel through. Then choke on and one or two mans kicks WITH NO THROTTLE and it should fire into life and start annoying the neighbours. In 6 years ive only once not been able to start it after i flooded and stalled it pulling stoppies.

There are web pages that give detailed instructions and even how to videos!

    Merry christmas

    Marcus

  8. Anyone out there ever owned / riden a Honda CR500?

Thinking of buying an early one to restore and have some fun on.

Any tips, stories etc. that might prove helpful?

    Cheers - Matt.

Ive had my CR5 (motard) for 6 years now I bought it as a mxer and converted it myself. CR5's are a brilliant bike and endlessly tunable. Easy to maintain and to work on. Parts are easily available and quite cheap compared to KX500 bits. Loads of power and very torquey. The older ones are a bit more peaky.

If you have trouble starting it then there is something wrong, probably just carb settings but if its been stood for a long while then the rubber crank seals can go perished and thats a big job.

I highly recomend them but i am slightly biased

  9. I've sent you message with my email address so thanks in advance for the info.

I ordered the spacers, Nigel did not want dimensions as he said they are standard issue and he had them in stock. I will let you know if they solve the problem before you buy some.

Email on its way to you.

    Thanks.

  10. That would be good, i've got some pdf's from a website and I think they are on this forum somewhere, they are exploded diagrams. Is this what you've got?

I will check the plug and jets and let you know.

I've got a TY175 and an Ossa 250 (never used in competition) so I hope the Scorpa will be a little easier to throw about as I am going to start club trials, I'm especially looking forward to the hydrolic clutch.......its got to be heaven compared to arm pump after half an hour of riding the Ossa.

There are some exploded diagrams but there is also some other stuff including a carb spec sheet which i have found very useful. PM me your email and i'll send them. the hydro clutch is very light on mine. I use 1 finger!!

The only thing i cant seem to find out is the float height.

  11. Helps a lot, I have just found Birketts on the internet and Nigel said the same thing however he didn't mention measuring the spacers. I am going to order them tomorrow so I can measure them tonight, good timing that thanks.

How do you find the bike? I've not ridden mine apart from when I had a test ride as I've stripped it down for a bit of a tidy up.

Should be back together in the next couple of weeks.

No probs. Nigel is FULL of excellent info (and also appears in the 1983 kickstart video that someone posted on here recently).

I would love to tell you all about how the 97 scorpa is the best trials bike ive ever ridden but to be honest ive only ridden that one and an old ty175 when i was young so i dont have much base for comparison. I think its a great bike. not as light as some of the others from the same year but fairly bulletproof so ive heard.

I would be very interested to know if your bike has a bp5es or bp6es plug fitted (or other) and also what jets its fitted with.

I can send you the pdf manuals if you give me your email.

    Cheers.

  12. I have the same bike (97 scorpa easy 250 grey/yellow) and have exactly the same problem. When i got the bike about 4 months ago i rang birketts and asked nigel about it. He told me that it is the little eyelets that the disc floats on that are worn and need replacing. He said that i need to take them off and measure them before i order more as there were several different ones used by scorpa.

I haven't actually replaced them and the bike rides fine. I only really notice it when im stopped holding it on the front brake. Must get round to it though.

    Hope this helps.

  13. I thought the Harley XR 750 wasn't the worst choice for jumping in those days. Bikes obviously did the job!

The way the American health costs are these days, he would have wiped out his fortune in a single crash.

Your right about the bike but ive always thought it took more skill and balls to jump on something like that than on a modern crosser. Like when evel failed the ceasor palace jump and his son robbie cleared it years later (i think he was on a cr500, not sure) people said that meant he was better than evel but i think you couldnt say that until robbie knievel did the same jump on the same type of bike.

  14. He was crazy. A true hero and one of the most honest, straight-talking blokes around.

I was there when eddie kid binned it at the bulldog bash. The jump was stupid and i think he said that about it afterwards. It wasnt a long jump by any standards but it is not really possible to land on an upward slope on a jump like that and of course there was only a 20 foot, 70 degree drop at the end of the upward slope. I remember hearing something about he hadnt seen the jump before he turned up that day but he did it anyway. Just like Evel would have.

I guess that all the big jump guys around now were all inspired by the great man in the 70's.

    RIP and thank you.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall

The structure of the wall was incorrect

  16. Now that sounds tedious, why not just get a whopping great syringe from the chemist, fill it with brake fluid, stick it on the loosened nipple and blow that sucker backwards, 2 minutes work and the system is flushed and airfree. believe me its 10 times easier and faster than all that fiddly bleeding. And remember, the air bubbles like to go UP!

Remember to drain off the at the top not to get fluid everywhere.

That is a great idea for when there is lots of air in there or when filling it after having it apart but when i do that with my bikes i also bleed them the day after as the syringe tends to slightly airate the fluid. Another small tip is to let brake fluid sit for 24hrs before using it. If you use it after the bottle has been sloshed about then the fluid has lots of tiny bubbles in it.

  17. Didn't have any copper paste, but I did find some CRC brake grease. Tried that the back of the pads, but to no avail. I have Jitsie pads ordered. Will try that next.

I had the EXACT same thing on my scorpa. it started after i fitted a new brake pipe and some fluid leaked onto the pads. i tried everything (even baking them) but had to replace the pads in the end.
