  1. but IE7 is not the default browser on a friends new I mac.... and 2% doesn't make them the owner. And according to this and this they don't anymore.

But whatever... they are bloody great at graphics and video editing, just seem to work so much quicker but with "slower" ratings.

I never said they were the owner but after they bought shares they had a hand in development. OS X was created with a lot of input from microsoft, which is one of the reasons its so different to previous versions of OS.

And no. they dont own the shares anymore but they have left a legacy with OS X

Ive noticed that slower speed rated macs seem to waaay out perform PC's with much higher speed ratings. Probably because they are not trying to run windows! :D

  2. 'Ello Peeps.

I know its not a trials bike but hope you dont mind.

My neighbour has just brought me his DT175 which had lost compression.

He has been lucky really. His piston rings disintegrated but it must have happened as the piston passed down accross the exhaust port as all the bits went into his exhaust. The bore is absolutely fine. I noticed that the piston is 0.25 oversize. Is this the first oversize?

It needs a top end gasket kit, Little end bearing (old one is fine but might as well) and a piston kit. He wants to go for a weiseco kit and i agree if the cost isnt that much different (I'll ring weiseco tomorow).

So where is the best place to get the gasket kit and get the price for a genuine yamaha piston kit?

Also, is this the same piston kit as for a TY175?

Does anyone have a manual for the DT175? If so what are the torque specs for the top end?

One last thing, Are these gaps in the back of the piston standard or are they some kind of upgrade the last time it was bored? (see picture)

    Thanks for your help.

  3. If your going for a mac look for 700 mghz or larger. Emac or imac g4 are great and cheap these days. Laptops are expensive. Towers are great but nobody gets rid of em untill they are too slow to do what you want to do. mac mini's are a bit new to get deals but if you can get one for 100 to 150 lbs you have found a deal. Search your local craigslist. That way you can go see it fire up and pay for it on the spot if needed. Look for os 10.4 to 10.5 at minimum. 10.4 is still a really strong platform and 10.5 had only a few improvements that as a new user you probably wouldn't really utilize.

    I completely agree.

  4. Thats pretty much the same as one of mine.

Its a good machine but you will find it a bit slow compared to modern stuff, especially with it running OS X Tiger.

Also, it needs a usb card fitting to make it usefull really.

  5. when did microsoft buy Apple then!!

1997. Microsoft bought $150 million (2%) of non-voting shares in apple. In return Apple was to make internet explorer the default browser on the Mac, It would also drop the outstanding patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft. Beyond that, Apple also announced a "broad" cross license their patents with Microsoft (for an undisclosed sum, though it's generally agreed it was another 150 million).

I also think the Microsoft agreed to continue development of the Apple OS verion of Microsoft Office (5 year deal I believe)

    article about it here:

  6. Hi.

I have now been inundated with ONE envelope.

I have sent it off with some stickers in it and just wanted to let you all know that i obviously wont be doing a poll to see gets the window sticker as i havent had any entries. :)

Andy, do you want the rest to give away or something? or should i just stick them on the dog and post a picture?

  7. I have 2 windows pc's and 3 macs.

The pc's crash all the time and the macs are ROCK SOLID.

1 mac is 14 years old, 1 is 8 years old (both for work) and one is a newer mac mini (for home use). The older ones work as well today as they did when i bought them new.

The new one is on OS X 10.39 (after microsoft bought apple) and the others are on OS 9.1 (before microsft). OS 9 seems better to me but the newer one is more user friendly. It just annoys me that every so often the system pauses and that little coloured wheel pops up for 5 seconds or so. old macs never used to do that.

Every accessory i have ever tried works fine on the newer mac. Camcorders, cameras, MP3 players, printers, scanners, helmetcam, wireless connectors, usb hubs, monitors, speakers, mouse, usb pens, everything, non of it mac specific. You just plug it in and it recognises it and your away.

I Hate PC's but still end up using them all the time as my wife prefers the mac too.

buy a mac mini. they're only about

  8. I am of the opinion that Electric Trials Bikes will make their way on the scene, and if they are viable for competition, more and more people will buy them given a choice of 2T, 4T or kW.. There are so many people out there who are loosing their riding land due to to a myriad of restrictions that just come with combustion engines. Scorpa is apparently working on an electric trials bike, we'll see what they come up with. I'm really interested in seeing how the first serious battery powered trials bike resolves the problem of the clutch, which is necessary for the bigger obstacles. Also, on one of the older Trials TV videos, they briefly show a honda prototype wedged into an Montesa 2000 frame, which never seemed to get any press, and I once came across an electric Gas Gas that Adam Raga was straddling. Again, no info or press there that I've found since.

The problem of the clutch could, no doubt, be solved with many different methods of clever electronic trickery.

Or they could just give it a clutch!

If electric bikes are going to be a hit with riders then they need to emulate the way that a conventional engine responds to the riders input.

There are lots of people and companies developing or researching the possibility of electric bikes, but surely they have to start by looking at what the customer wants and i would say that what we want (if we must) is an electric bike that feels the same to use as a petrol bike. Given the endless possibilities for "tuning" the power output and delivery of an electric motor surely this cant be too difficult.

Of course given the choice i would like all trials bikes to be two strokes and to have all the electric and 4 stroke bikes ground up into small peices and turned into beer cans.

Good job i'm not in charge really isn't it.

  9. Hi there,

i have only just joind the forum and am slowly working my way through the posts when i discovered this one.....

i will happily take some stickers off your hands and carry out some free advertisement on my bike if you have any left......

    Cheers

    Iain

No problems Iain. Providing your in the uk just send an SAE to the address at the start of this thread.

  10. OK. I have had precisely no requests for stickers. :(

I thought i would be overun with envelopes but it appears that the world is not ready for these stickers.

If you have sent an envelope and it just hasnt turned up please let me know.

I should be at the Lancs county wednesday night trial tonight so if you see me there feel free to ask. I have plenty. I am easy to recognise on my old grey and yellow scorpa and i have a "MadCR500" sticker on my rear mudguard and helmet.

  11. Fair call on the bridge not being super hard, but it was a warm up to run the 450 BMW over it. Stills at the end of the vid.

At the same time we are talking about one of the greatest stunt riders of all time.

Just getting up on the roof of the Hummer would have stuffed most of us.

Thats kind of what i was saying. Getting onto the bridge was the hardest part and for someone like him, he could do that bit in his sleep. Nice stoppie down the other side though.

  12. I'm no expert and i know a lot of people will think i'm talking rubbish but that chris pfeifer bridge crossing didnt look that hard really. Don't get me wrong, it must be scary and must have taken a lot of erm. . . Testicles. But it didnt look that steep or particularly narrow, no wind or anything and good grip.

  13. Your stickers have no treads! You must have treads! You have none! No treads! :wall:

You cannot ride trials without treads! You cannot have stickers without treads!

Wot frigin 500CR riding is not about treads! You should have them! We all want them!

Get off the bum and get some treads! :D

I'd like to explain all the technical printing reasons that the stickers dont have treads behind them but the truth is that when i did them i was in a hurry and didnt even notice them. Sorry. The font isnt spot on either as i didnt have quite the correct one.

Hey, they're free so quit your jibba jabba.

  14. OK here goes Do not open in the office. Beware. volume needed for full effect. maybe a little much for some folks. Sorry if this is over the line.

    http://www.chooseyouritem.com/jokes/wfhm.html

    scroll down after page loads.

Thats pretty good. Send the SAE and you'll get a few stickers. Dont know about the big sticker yet, I'll have to wait for the entries to start flooding in (not had any yet)

Thats from the purple helmets display team, they're funny, I saw them last year at the Scorton steam fair (which is on this weekend by the way but this time they are having monster trucks) Its well worth a day out.

  15. Maybe yours isn't but that's not to say someone else's is.

True but I'll post the winner up here so bottom pictures may not be the way to go or i'll get in trouble. You'd still get extra little stickers i suppose. If i get lots of bottom pics i'll let the wife decide who has the best bum. Still, i'd rather not have to look at lots of pics of blokes bottoms.

Tell you what, i'll draw a shortlist (not of the bottoms) and post a poll and you lot can decide on a winner.

    Should be fun.

Hope this is all still ok with andy.

  16. Who ever sends me the funniest or most interesting thing gets a larger sticker (about 28cm long) so dig out your funny photo's, articles or whatever you can find to fit in the envelope.

Dont send me pictures of your bum, Ive got one of my own and its not funny. :wall:

  17. post-5332-1213094855.jpg

    Stickers Please (marcus)

    Beech House,

    Beech Grove,

    Knott-end

    Lancashire

    FY6 0AL

I dont want paying for them but please make a donation to the site by way of thank you as we all use this site for info and advice.

First come first served but i have about 80 left.

I have already ok'ed this with andy but if he has any problems i would ask him to let me know.

P.S. If you want you can also send me a cheque for 1 million pounds just because im a nice chap.

P.P.S Anyone sending me anything humorous or interesting will get an extra couple thrown in. :wall:

  18. Check that your choke plunger is returning all the way to the bottom and is not hampered by anything. Mine had 3 cable ties wrapped round it when i got it. I removed them and it improved the running all round. Most of the time it was fine.
