  1. Thanks Mark, same to you if it is appropriate!

The weight difference between Aaron and I is about 10 lbs, however he is several inches taller than I am and his body fat is probably only about 5%.

According to the Sherco specs the 2T weighs 153 lbs and the 4T weighs 160.

  2. Here it is Fathers day and my youngest son and I went to the club and rode the 4T. Aaron is 24 and just finished his schooling and started a new job in another city, he was home for Father's day so we went for a ride, he rode Expert locally a few years ago and is a pretty good rider. He had ridden the 4T around the yard once and thought it was OK. However, he now thinks it is GREAT and that is inspires confidence in that it will go anywhere. It has such strong smooth power, we rode some hills that on the 2T's (2.9's) we were a little bit intimidated, the 4T went up them in third gear like we were riding on the highway, it was absolutely amazing. The bike does not feel any heavier than the 2T, even though it is. We both had a great time taking turns riding it, we would find an area to ride then watch each other ride, actually not a bad way to practice, especially when you only have one bike. It does not start as easy as the 2t but it started every time, I am getting more confident in starting it and as one guy told me, every bike has its own procedure for starting.

I am still VERY HAPPY with the 4T, it makes riding a real pleasure. The motor is a real joy and the suspension is the best of any Sherco that I have ridden, they have done a really nice job on this bike IMO.

  3. Robert,

I started to check the valves and ran into the same problem you are describing, I therefore sent a note to Sherco and this is their response:

    1. Drain the coolant out of the system.

    2. Loosen the radiator and fan housing and move out of the way.

    3. Remove the valve cover.

I have not done it yet but will in the next few days.

  4. RL, NO HAMMERING INTENDED!

I did really like the Beta, made that statement that is was very well designed but does not have the power that the Sherco does, no one will disagree with that. Ray could and I think did ride a 125 and did extremely well a couple of years ago. He does weigh somewhat less than the guy who just added the 300 kit and the new exhaust to his bike and power to weight ratio is very critical. I have not ridden a Beta 300 but hope to do so in the next few weeks, if I am still welcome.

I had a great big grin on my face the day I rode it that is for sure, and really enjoyed the ride, thanks again! If I was not so true to Sherco I would be looking seriously at a Beta but I would want the 300 kit on it, just because that is the way I am.

The Scorpa was big and heavy and felt like it had less power than the Sherco, although it has been some time since I rode it.

As you know I bleed Sherco blue or black or what ever the main color is and am going to promote the Sherco. But all that being said the 3.2 has really good power, i even think that I remember someone telling me to be careful or get a Michelin man suit.

  5. From whom did you purchase this bike? I hope that it came from a dealer. I highly recommend that you take it back to him and have him analyze this problem.

What jets are in the bike, what plug are you running, what gas are you using what oil/gas mixture?

Where is the timing set at.

  6. I have ridden both the 08 Beta 4T, about an hour in trials conditions, and the 08 Sherco 4T, also in trials and trail conditions. The Sherco definitely has more power, but for me it is very controllable.

The Beta that I rode had been upgraded to a 300 (did not have enough power for the expert class rider) and it also will be receiving, if it has not already, a brand new lightweight less restrictive exhaust system. I still think the 3.2 will have better power.

I did not get this bike to compete or even ride trials, basically it is my play bike. I will take it up to the club once or twice a week and ride sections and blast through the woods and so far from what I have seen it is going to do a great job.

  7. I have an 08 and have only ridden it twice in the woods but I had this silly grin on my face while I was cruising through the woods. Put it in 4th gear and go, it is amazing, great power, if you need to just slip the clutch a little.

Mark how is that seat working for you, something like that might be a nice addition to the 4T. I have ridden one a Scorpa 4T and the Sherco 4T has MUCH more power feels much lighter. I do like the seat idea but if you can stand up then for sure go with the Sherco.

I have not had mine long enough to assess the reliability, keep th oil fresh and it should last.

  8. I had three Technical questions for Sherco: Here are the questions with the answers.

    1. Head bolt torque - 3 KG (21 ft lbs)

    2. Map 1 / Map 2 function - Use Map 1 for dry good traction conditions and use Map 2 for wet poor traction conditions

    3. Carburetor air screw setting - 1/2 - 3/4 turn out more or less

It is supposed to rain today so it will be a good day to check the head bolt torque and the valve clearance.

  9. Steve,

I find your comment about the Beta interesting, I also rode an 08 Beta 4T and really liked it, it was a lot of fun but it did feel like a 125 compared to the Sherco 3.2. Very nice bike, nicely put together with some nice features. I still prefer the Sherco.

  10. Mark said,

"Brad thinks I just fell off the turnip truck when I tell him things like your front brake needing attention, and he walks over and it is there working. He asked if I already had it diagnosed, so I looked at him and replied, yes, pretty much! Oh well! I'll let him catch hell from you!"

The front brake still felt "spongy" on Saturday so I took a few minutes this afternoon and reverse bled it (used a syringe at the bleeder and pushed brake fluid up into the master cylinder) I think that has resolved the problem.

I like it more and more each time I ride it. I have not figures out the Map 1 and Map 2 switch, I sent a note to Sherco and asked them for an explanation, it will be interesting to see what they say.

I did go back to the 42 pilot, the 45 was to rich, if I used the choke on a cold start it would almost flood.

    Wayne

  11. I am not able to confirm that at this early stage, I filled the tank before my ride last Saturday and rode it for about an hour and I have started it ridden it several times around the house and it still has about 1/2 a tank. I am going to ride again today so hopefully I will know more later by this afternoon.

    Wayne

  12. Ishy, it is good to hear from you, what are you riding now?

I think the bike is fairly well run in, it was used as a minders bike at the world round and they evidently used it as a demo bike, they even let Mark ride it.

I feel that a pilot jet change is fairly minor, I prefer the bike to run a little rich rather than lean tends to run a little cooler.

Thanks for the input, BTW, how is the lad riding? He is probably a teen ager by now. Time flies when you are having fun.

    Wayne

  13. Mark,

I called it a tractor, not a screamer, the power is very smooth and linear, it is not pipey at all. I do not think that the bike Caby rides is the same bike that I have. Ryan was hoping that they would leave his bike here, he was going to put Cody on it. They took it back to Spain, did you happen to get a chance to look at his bike when you were at the World Round in TN.

If the weather cooperates I will put it in the dirt again on Friday, I am really looking forward to it.

    Wayne

  14. JM,

I believe that the carb modification is included on the new 10th anniversary edition. I like the way the bike starts and runs with the 45 so that is the way that I will run it for the time being. Most modern cars and motorcycles are lean in order to meet current emission requirements. May be an explanation for the lean pilot jets.

  15. After my ride on Saturday I worked on the 4T that afternoon and then again on Sunday. I found that the engine ran best with the air screw set at 1/4 turn out, this normally means that the pilot jet is too small, I installed a 45 (in place of the 42) and it ran best at 1/3 turn out. That is where I have it now.

I also worked in it some yesterday afternoon, installed a kill button (yellow/green wire is ground and the black wire is the kill button wire). I also checked the spark plug gap it was not on spec, should be .6mm and it was about .8mm. Also installed neoprene fork boots and anti-seized all of the bolts on the front end.

Sherco has done a really nice job on this bike, I am very impressed, the triple clamps are very nicely done, the fender and fuel tank are so easy to remove, they have really made some nice changes.

Yesterday it rained and the wind blew so hard that I did not ride the bike enough to get a feel for the changes that I had made. Just finished installing new grips (actually used super bike gel grips and did not have to cut a hole in the end for my bar ends). It started on THE FIRST KICK after sitting all night, the temp dropped to around 45F. After warming it up I rode around the house a few times and then rode up the street, this thing is so strong it will pull 5th gear at a little bit over an idle, feels like a tractor.

This afternoon, the wheel bearings get packed with a mixture of waterproof grease and anti-seize as well as the dog bone bearings.

So far I am feeling really good about this 4T.

The weather was great yesterday (Saturday 17 May) so I loaded up and went to the club. The bike had sat in the garage for a couple of days without starting, started on the third kick after I unloaded it. I stalled it a couple of times and each time it started up on the 3rd or 4th kick, I am getting comfortable with getting it started. Starting is not an issue.

I am absolutely amazed at the power, you hardly need 1st and 2nd it pulls great in 3rd, 4th is also very strong will be great for riding between sections of just plain trail riding, you could blow away just about anybody on a normal dirt bike with this thing, my boys and used to do it on our 2T's this thing is even stronger.

There were several people around so I felt more comfortable trying some things that I did not last week, most of the areas we rode have not been touched since we quit riding 2 years ago, so I was able to ride in my own private areas, there is only one other guy who rides trials in our club of 130+ riders and he has not ridden is some time. The bike climbs extremely well, put it in third and go, it will also putt around in realy tight areas very well.

Bottom line I have this great big smile on my face!

  16. Well things worked out just perfect this morning and I loaded the 3.2 4T on my bike trailer and hooked it up to the Goldwing Trike and went up to the local club for a first ride in the dirt.

SWEET!!!! The engine is incredible, strong and smooth, awesome power in the first 3 gears, 4th is no slouch! The power comes on very smooth, not jerky, no strong hit just like an electric motor.

The suspension is extremely supple, did not jar these senior citizen bones at all, I was really impressed. This is the first trials bike that I have owned in two or three years, Sherco has done a really good job on this bike. I am happy, was nervous about going with the 4T after having nothing but 2T's in former years.

Mark, there is something not exactly right about the front brake, I did not see any leaks, it felt like there was air in the system of the master cylinder plunger seal was not sealing completely. If I applied the brakes on a down hill the front brake lever would start losing pressure, if I applied it hard it was OK. Needs to be looked at.

Ron, I can see where you would say that a Michelin suit could be necessary, this thing has power. One thing that I did notice that in oder for it to run right at idle the air screw had to be set at 1/4 turn out, looks like I will be installing a larger pilot jet.

Wayne - VERY HAPPY with the 2008 Sherco 4T

  17. Ron,

I don't intend to be falling down.

I did get a chance to fire it up and ride it around the neighborhood again tonight. It is very strong in the first 3 gears. It took four kicks to start it the first time, after I warmed it up I changed the oil. That is a new experience, 2 drain plugs in the bottom, one on the side and then the filter. Next time will be much easier and less time consuming.

After changing the oil I rode it again starting and stopping several times, it started on the first kick every time. I think I am going to like this 4T thing.

Will know more after Saturday hopefully.

  18. Mark,

It is in the garage! Drove down to Shelbyville on Monday and picked it up. Started on the second kick, I took the choke off to early and Ryan had to start it for me. After I got it home it again started on the second kick, I kept the choke on until it warmed up and it ran very well, rode around the neighborhood for about 15 minutes and parked it. Took about an hour to look it over good.

The quality looks pretty darn good, rotor bolts were tight, rear sprocket nice and tight. The only thing that I had to tighten were a few of the spokes, probably normal for a minder bike from a World Round. I plan to change the oil tomorrow evening and if the weather permits take up to our local club on Saturday. I do like the way they have attached the new fuel tank, I never liked that little bolt on the front. The new fuel cap is also a nice touch. I would always install fat bars and a Keihn, there is not to much for me to do to this one with the exception of greasing and anti seizing all of the fasteners. I will also modify the wiring a little, will probably leave the light on.

I brought home a set of fenders and decals but will not install them as it looks pretty darn good.

    Will keep you posted,

    Sherco 10th Anniversary Special Edition

Caldes of Montbui, April 24th 2008. Sherco is celebrating its 10th year in the production of trials motorcycles and to commemorate this outstanding accomplishment, have decided to release an exclusive limited edition model which will be available in both 2T and 4T versions. Both models benefit from a special tax discount because they exceed the current CO2 emission regulations, the emission levels of these motorcycles fall below the allowed maximums. In addition to the special price that these models will receive because of this discount, those who purchase them will acquire an exceptional and unique motorcycle at a very attractive price.

The new Sherco 10th anniversary edition is a tribute to the brand and to all of the many models that have left the factory in Montbui these past 10 years. The graphic design is very elegant and is complimented by the frame which is finished in an attractive gray color and produces a very pleasing effect. The body is smooth and streamlined and includes the colors that have been associated with the company throughout these first ten years; they include red, yellow and black.

At the technical level the new Sherco 10th anniversary edition hides few secrets. The high technical level of all of the models produced by the company has generated a high degree of trust in the quality of the components used to produce the current units. These new machines utilize most of these same components and will have that same high quality level. The 3.2 4T model will include all of the recent technical developments implemented by the design group and will provide the user with a motor that will fully meet all of their varied requirements. Between the two models, 2T and 4T, there will be a total of 200 units produced; each of them will be identified with a unique number on the chassis. These new motorcycles will be available at local dealers in the very near future.

  20. Neo, there is no current plan to update the manuals, for the most part they are still applicable. I talked to Ryan Young about it and he does not see any need to update them as the chassis and engine have not had any significant changes.

    Wayne

  21. I am like Cope, I thought this was A Sherco post, it seems like everyone is telling him to get a Montesa. I will be getting my 3.2 on April 27th, I will let you know how I like it after that.

    Wayne

  22. Check out the service manuals listed in the sticky posted on this page.

There is a complete setup and maintenance guide available.

Like Cope said, the clutch plates will stick, however a way that works to unstick them is to put the bike in 5th gear, pull in the clutch and kick it a couple of times. This method works no matter what other people will say, it is the method that Ryan suggested to me.
