I can't imagine my life without trials..... is there a 12 step meeting for that? "I am powerless over trials and my life is unmanageable without it." It just gets better and better. It is always good to see a new person discovering the fun of trials. For me, it really is all about balance. When I don't ride, my life is less than awesome, but with my weekly 'medication' on the pegs, I am great, my life is awesome and people don't think I stink!

Hard to believe, but I've beat the crap out of this bike, even cracked the frame, and the shifter STILL hangs up. I would have thought it would wear in by now. Guess I'll take it apart this winter and have another look.

WOW, you'd have to do something really amazing to bend this shaft, it's behind the chain!
Checked it and it looks good, no surprise here.
I have the shaft out, and it feels like the part that hooks to the drum pins, that springs in and out on the part that is welded to the end of the shaft, is dragging. Seems like it has just enough of a burr to hold it back occationally. Seems really weird, but that's the only thing I can find. I can make it hang up with the clutch off, and no shift lever. There's nothing else in there to hold it. I may just replace the shaft and see what happens.

FYI: It's no myth, common problem with Beta stator coil, haven't heard of it on Shercos though.

Ayah, a good Maine girl... Shade in the summah and warmth in the wintah.

I don't think that is it. I can get it to hang up with the whole clutch off!
I've been so busy riding, I haven't had time to take it apart again and try the suggestions.
Thanks to you all, I'll try them when I have time.
I hate to stop riding long enough to work on my bike!

They have bronze bushings with a grease groove and a hole for the grease to enter. See attached picture. The old beat up ones come off a 96 Gas Gas and the bronze bushings are for the same bike (steel links, not aluminum). The Sherco ones are on the right before the change (Aluminum links.).
NOW, the bad news. I haven't kept up with the greasing, so there is some free play. Since the links were modified, I'll have to get the whole set-up. This was an expensive experiment. It would probobly have been great if I rode Novice. Also, one of the bushings turned and I couldn't get grease into it. So I had to take it apart and turn it until the holes lined up.
I ride Expert, and ride almost every weekend. I just got in from a 5 hour ride in the snow! I have never had a problem with hitting the grease fittings on rocks. If I greased them after every ride, they would have lasted longer.
Doesn't matter now, I'm selling the bike and going back to Beta. I've had too many problems with it.
Rock on!

All I have to do is get out my grease gun!
-
I have received rear fenders that were not wrapped in a plastic bag and were covered with surface scratches and dust. I didn't send them back because I knew they would look worse after one ride, but I can't sell crap like that.

My shock is leaking also. 2006- 2.9. Ryan Young says they aren't rebuildable.
Seems like it should last for more than one season of riding!
-
I don't think so. It's really stuck when it sticks. The spring feels strong. The bike wasn't ridden at all in 2006, so there's only one season of riding on it.

Sometimes when I upshift my 2006 trial 2.9 the shift lever stays up. I can't upshift again until I tap it down. There is nothing rubbing on the outside or the inside. I took it all apart, and it looks like the 'cog' that moves back and forth on the end of the shifter gets hung up. I tried to file it down on the edges, but either my file is crap or it's hardened steel, because it didn't do much. Before I take it apart again, I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and what they did about it. Thanks.
