  1. Rightio folks,

Getting a bigger lad then before now  an I like the idea of more power on tap as I'm sure everyone does. I'm 17 in October but I never really liked how bigger bikes rode, I prefer the characteristics of the rev box 125s and I haven't used my new bike enough to warrant getting another then. So what can I do, or what parts can I get to increase the power or just generally improve the bike? The following are some that I have thought about...

-Carb change, Doesn't really appeal to me cause of the set up/reliability issues, and my dealer shooed me away from the idea.

-Ti front pipe with insert? They are costly? Would it make a good enough noticeable difference and what is that difference?

-High comp heads? In the past i noticed a few of these about but now don't hear of them much. I know s3 have brought one out but i dont think they are suitable for 125s

-I'm all out of ideas now :P

My bike is a 2010 125, all standard apart from splatpegs and an ohlins shocker. Any advice I would greatly appreciate.

  2. Rightio folks,

First time out today on the bike for a long time what with exams and all sorts of other things going on. Well the last time I was out I was told that a lot of people were modifying their sherco 2010 airboxes and was curious to find out what it is and how it helps? Mine was one of the early ones so any other changes may not be on my bike, is there anything else that I should look for or change?

    Cheers

  3. Right ho,

Just got back in from stripping my bike down (010), while i was at it taking the carb apart and detaching the fuel line the fuel that came out was yellow :s And in the bottom of the carb it seemed slightly thick in places. I ran fuel out of the tank till it looked normal again and put it all back together. Started first kick and ran nice an smooth still after. Just curious really, is it that the fuel could have gone off? It has been stood for about 2 weeks or so.

  4. With big thanks to Chris at splatshop I picked up the bike last night. He greased the majority of the bolts with copper slip for me and fitted mud guards to guard the rear shock, engine and on the front mudguard.

I'm going out in it this afternoon on it for the first time  and will likely change the oil when I get back as well as greasing up the rear linkage.

To Robsmont, I notice that the spring/shock is different on your bike, out of interest what is the reason for this?

Is there any other advice to come from people?

    Cheers

  5. I was out practicing today when unknown to me my rear pads had completely worn out and because of the sudden drop in performance I presumed it would be a leak or similar, however I found it was the pads and that they had left marks in my disc rotor, will I be ok just to replace the pads?

    Cheers

  6. Hi "TheShercoRider"

    Some very good advice there.

I'd say ride the easy route so it doesn't get scratched, that's my opinion, that's why I ride one thats 19 years old !!

But seriously, if your old bikes been sold and you want something with a bit more GRUNT for those big hill climbs,

then there's always a spare Aprilia Climber in my shed you can borrow for Eadons Fields Trials !!

Get some pictures on your website ASAP.

    Best wishes with it.

Haha pete, it could be interesting to do a trial like that on a bike like yours. I think I will go for the gentle option of running it in as it seems to be the tryed and tested way to do things. It probably will make it work ok but I'd rather be sure and have my bike fine :o

My Dad is ringing up to see if I can get one sorted for the next few days tomorrow. I'll get him to put some pics up on the website and also I think i might make a video for a change now he has a fancy HD camera. So look out for that.

    Cheers

  7. New bike should hopefully be arriving soon but what is there that you should do when you get it?

I heard that after the first or second time out the oil should be changed and that all bolts/bearings should be greased up?

Also how long do you tend to run in your bike and what methods/type of things do you do?

    Any help appreciated.

EDIT: also what do people reckon to changing the carbs? All the bikes I have seen have either had a dellorto flat side or a keihin on. It has obviously been designed for a keihin as the manifold is over sized to take it.

  8. My dad has posted the results up on the hillsborough website... http://www.hillsboroughmcc.co.uk/results.html

I'm pretty sure my dad is working on the photos at the moment but keep checking to his website... http://rjhague.jalbum.net/

Please don't forget that the images on his site have been shrunk down (from 18mb a piece and over 400 of them!) for putting on the website and the real high res pics are astonishing quality. So if there's any you like get in touch with me or him.

It suprised me how much I enjoyed observing today. I had a nice section too :o

  9. I grabbed myself a go on a 290 sherco yesterday to see what is what before I get mine and in stead of just saying oh it was good or crap for a review I thought why not go into mre detail. This one had been delivered on wednesday, rode on the saturday and did the trial on the sunday in which I got a turn on after. I was under strict orders not to rev it so I got on and tootled around :P

I was very near the bike/rider for the whole trial so I got to notice any problems or situations that the bike struggled in and I am glad to report that it was perfectly fine, enough so to even win the trial on the hard route against the likes of Tony Scarlett. That sounds even better when you remember that it had not been run it and he didn't want to open it up. I noticed on a climb he was in a higher gear than normal sitting on the bottom end and yet he still managed to do perfectly fine.

First of all I would like to point out the situation with people feeling pains in their arms. There were a few of us that had a go, some sherco riders, some gas gas and a beta rider. The sherco and gas gas riders both found it perfectly fine but the beta rider felt problems in his arms. Previous people to have complained have all been beta riders ;) It is just the same for me when I hop on a beta coming from my sherco in a way that feels very strange.

The looks, it was a whole lot smaller than I imagined and features that looked strange in the pictures were gone unnoticed. It also looks like a nicely finished bike too with the blue and black. Also noticed people who previously had said it looks poor from what they had seen a while back now changed their opinion to that it looks great.

The engine, it is quite pointless me commenting here because I am used to riding a 125 with a dellorto and this bike had both the 290 engine and a keihin carb. But for the first time ever I gat on a bigger bike than a 125 and felt comfortable, problem is it made me want a bigger bike  So there isn't really much for me to say on this front seen as I have nothing to compare it to. It sounded great though and picked up good.

The feel, I immediately was suprised by how light the front end was making it very easy for the odd hop around but I can guess what you are thinking, what about the rear end heavy problem? Well there was no problem, it was filled up just before I took my turn and while it was a little more heavy on the rear it wasn't too much, still very easy to flick around but yet oodles of grip compared to my 08. The balance seemed just about spot on.

I would carry on but It would be me rabbling as most of this is I guess  But I was very very inpressed, Chris I know you will be reading this, get me mine pronto!!!! :D

  10. Right ho,

I did a quick search but found nothing. The things is I am going to be buying a new set of tyres tomorrow and didn't know whether or not to go for the x lite over the x11.

What are your views on these x lite tyres? I heard some say they are like IRC tyres but I really don't like them.

    Quick answers please.

    Cheers

  11. i want more agresion though

Seriously josh, you would find a lot more power out of your bike if you changed your technique. Less of the high gears with low revs and more of the lower gears with high revs as at the top end that is where most of the power is.

If not get some reeds but my advice is not to bother with a keihin carb as they seem to be very temperamental. Only person I know to like them is Chris and I think that might be influenced by the fact that he owns his own shop.
