  1. go with the same size as your amal, (probably a 28mm) I like the mikuni (PM or PJ ?)round slide, it's an easy carb to work with and get parts & jets for, I have a kiehn on my 123 and like it, either one is way better carb than the Amal in my oppinion, after getting the kiehn on and getting the jetting right it produces quite a bit more performance, better bottom power and a lot better top end power.

  2. unfortunatly this has become a political stance, when ever you get politics involved it's all abought the ca$h, and there are plenty of fools who will back up a political party blindly just to feel like they are a part of what's happening. off roading in the US is on the endangered species list and our very way of life is being threatened, fortunatly the AMA is fighting for riders rights, I can't even imagine living in California and being subject to ridicolous motor sports laws, knowing that the coal burning factory next door gets extra tax write offs and EPA exemptions and puts more pollution in the air in one hour than I will my entire life riding 2-strokes. arg... I could go on for hours, it makes my blood boil to think abought it too much, we have already lost the battle, and most of our riding areas, Will you be able to ride your 2008 2-stroke cycle in california in the next decade? Who can tell? I understand there to be a grandfather clause regaurding Vintage 2-stroke street bikes, nothing is gaurenteed when political power wants to flex it muscle

    sorry didn't mean to get to negative or political, this has bothered me for over 20 years, and I think too much abought this stuff, lets just go ride and enjoy what we have

I have an early eighties 123 and it did not come with a tensioner either , it did however come with a wierd black plastic sleeve that the complete chain was routed through, it waded up into the sprocket the first day out, I do believe it needs something to help guide the chain or keep tension on it but I rode the bike for 20 plus years with out one and as long as I had the chain tension good there was no problemb, but let the chain get a little loose and it would derail, my advise if one is available, go ahead and install one

  4. for me he was an inspiriation, I was riding Bultaco's also, Americans Lane Levet and Marland Whaley also competed fairly succefully in world rounds, it was Bernies time, and I believe he did attract more attention to Trials in the US, and this was the only time I ever remember seeing trials on national television

  5. What is supposed to be here? there is a brass bushing in the hole like a shift shaft should be there but no seal and it appears that the shifting mechanism is the small lever to the left of the hole

  6. Your bike is 1981. 1982 MY had Marzocchi forks, white tanks etc.

    This one is identical to my VERY early one that I use all the time...1980.

    Do you think that any left side engine cover will work, 250 or 350? 1980 to 1982

    also was this the only years that the italjet was produced?

  7. Cool bike. I don't remember ever seeing one before.

    Bernie Schriber rode them at world rounds for a couple of years, then that was it, I never saw them again, Tom Batcholor was selling them in the early eighties, and there was only a few of them in Texas as far as I know, I would be very interested in production numbers, my bet is they are pretty low, the bike seems really well made, Chrome molly tubing, betor forks, notice the fox shocks mounted upside down ( they won't dampen if they are upside down)

    also this bike seems very Bultacoish to me, the frame is very simmilar to the last Sherpa's with the intergal skidplate, the cylinder and exhaust have a bultaco style look to them, also the front fork and tripple clamp are practically identical to the Sherpa

  8. picked up the italjet, not sure how to identify the model, pretty sure it's a 250 as I think the 350 has a different exhaust, the motor seems pretty sound, good comperssion etc. I think it will make an easy restoration, I really need the left engine cover and shift pedal, a seat would be nice but I can fabricate a seat if I have to

  9. The US market situation is being re-evaluated at the Factory/Importer level. We will see what happens for 09.

    not really sure what this means but I would only hope that montesa reconsidered building a 2 stroke for certain markets, such as the US that are not controlled for emmisions such as a "closed course" only bike like our 2 and 4 stroke race bikes, I saw a lot of new beta 2 strokes this year, I understand 4 stroke trials bikes were forced on us since they have to be street legal in europe and 2 strokes won't pass emissions testing, no dirt bike or trials bike could be legaly ridden on US roads unless it was modified to DOT standards. so why not a 2 stroke closed course only designation, my bet is they would sell better than the 4T

  10. it's been 25 years since I saw a trials bike on a show room floor, these days new trials bikes are sold by trials riders that have regular jobs. I kinda like it that way, the dealer is always at your event to demo the latest bikes, and I have never had any problemb getting parts from them, if you cut out the local dealer, who is going to be at your event now, the corporate importer is not going to be at your local event. Sure I want for the days where you could walk into a bike shop and sample several trials models and pick up a new rear fender from the shelf, unless trials has a new surge we are definatly in a micro-market and should consider ouselves lucky to be able to purchase a variety of new trials bikes.

I heard PWK's make it more revy or pipey, at least that 's what every one was saying abought them a few years ago (that had put them on beta's and scorpas), that the round slide made more bottom end power than the PWK. and the PWK offered more topend punch, I have always thought the flywheel was too light on my '97 315R for my riding style, I'm not aware of any flywheel weight kits but I would be interested in trying one.

    I would like more info on the PWK it seemed to work for you Majestyman, did you order it prejeted and from where, what jets are you using?

    also has anyone tried the Boysen reeds and did that help or hurt bottom end?

  12. hello, I am in the process of aquiring an italjet trials model, I don't know too much abought them except they were made in the early '80's and Bernie Schriber contested them in world rounds for a couple of years, is there any info abought identifying the model I have ? or production figures? it's missing the generator cover and the seat :) other wise supposed to be all there
