    Txt Overheating

try bypassing the thermostat switch and kick the bike over and if the thermostats ok the fan will come on immediatly when you kick it over, also remove the fan and put 12v power straight into the fan to see if it works, get an electric multimeter and do a continuety test across the thermostat whilst holding the thermostat in boiling water and if its ok a beeping noise will sound on the multimeter.. if the fan works and the thermostats ok then the fan rectifier is knackered, ( the rectifier is the little square black box attached to the fan cowling ).. hope this helps

    Funny Clutch

i had this problem just recently with my 2001 280txt gasser. im not sure if its the same with your bike but on mine when i had the clutch out there are two push rod bars that go through the gear box into the clutch slave cylinder. one of these bars looks like a valve out of a cylinder head of a car. well anyway in between these two bars should be a 5mm steel ball bearing and i didnt know this at the time i rebuilt the clutch and i had obviously lost it when i removed the pushrod bars and i had the same problem as you, as soon as i replaced the 5mm ball bearing between those pushrod bars my clutch was magically fixed and i havnt had a problem with it since..... hope this helps
  3. ive seen this happen loads of times, i also have a 2001 280 gasser, i know it sounds stupid but the rubber dust cap that goes into the throttle twist grip on your bars could be causing this, peel the rubber back and see if the cable has been pulled out slightly and is sitting on the end of the cables seat instead of being in the seat itself... it only takes a slight pull and it falls out of position and revs through the roof like you said....
  4. Was the bike running properly before you stripped the carb down, check ur floats are not in upside down, is the emulsion jet definatly clear of debris.... it does sound like your mixture screw is too far out thou... also check your reeds to see if they are worn and are not open too far all the time. apart from these i cant think of anythin else it could be, sorry...
