Well the clip looks like a clip that holds a piston wrist pin in . It's just a small diameter piece of wire, and unfortunitly the ends of the wire are flat. So it's not very easy to get the sharp thingy to get ahold of it. I'll try again today or tomarrow.
Yeah Ralphy, they could be friday forks, LOL. If no one has a better solution than takin it apart I'll have to be a little more industrius about gettin it apart. I dont think that circlip should be too difficult to get out , but it was being difficult, and i was concerned that i might slip and damage the threads inside the cap. or worse yet jab the really sharp thingy i was using into my hand.
I have mentioned it to him and he said his did the same thing, but he didnt mention a fix. I have to admit it is a bit of a nuesance to an otherwise great bike. Oh, somthing else that i noticed is that the fork spring compression adjuster adjusts itself loose by a 1/4 turn every ride. I guess there's not enough friction built into the adjuster. It would sure be great if there is an updated fork cap to fix these issues.
I have a 09 290 Evo, and have a small annoyance with the compression leg fork cap leaking oil through the threads of the preload adjuster. Hopefully this part is just missing an o-ring. I tried to dissasemble the fork cap to inspect it but i couldnt get the circlip removed to dissasemble it. Oh, somthing else that i noticed is that the fork spring compression adjuster adjusts itself loose by a 1/4 turn every ride. I guess there's not enough friction built into the adjuster. So have any of you noticed this and fixed it or is it just going to be a quirk of the bike?
Nice looking bike Dave, Aside from other minor updates. I think Beta only modified the rear suspension, I'm guessing with a firmer spring. Wouldnt that transfere more weight to the front? I have an 09 290. I like the bike very much. I installed firmer springs front and rear for my 250lb/113.4kg rider weight. With a little bit of tinkering i was able to get a very nice feel front and rear. The suspension is now plusher in initial travel and firms up smoothly offering better bottoming resistance than stock. I am curious to know how the arrow pipe works. Is it louder? How does it chage the power? Can you detect any weight savings over the stock unit while riding the bike, and does it have a built in sparky?
The owners manual says that the brass colored screw that adjusts damping adjusts compression damping. I have adjusted mine and found it to adjust rebound damping. Is there a typo in the manual or am i incorrect.
Are you refering to the screw that controls the rebound damping? Or are you refering to the two rings that ride on threads carved into the outside of the shock body which are used to adjust spring preload?
You may have a lean condition if the air screw is set too lean which would cause a hanging idle. Or you may have an air leak from a number of possible sources. Check the carb top or intake manifold for air leaks. If the main bearing seals are leaking you could test this by putting the transmission vent tube in a container of water while the motor is running. If there is an excessive amount of air bubbles coming from the vent tube you probobly have a bad seal and bearing. An ocasional air bubble is ok. Also is the transmission oil being consumed? You can check the ignition side main bearing seal by spraying propane gas from a plumbers torch at the seal while the motor is running. You might also be able to use some kind of flamable electrical contact cleaner from a spray can. Direct the spray of flamable substance at the bearing seal and if the idle speed increases you have a leaking seal.
Possibly the race is to replace the race that originally came with the bike if ts bad. If it's not worn why change it? Just apply some waterproof greese and reinstall the new bearing with the old race.
Currently i weigh 250lbs. ride at high altitude, and just begining to ride intermediate trials here in Colo. It couldnt be more powerful than my 290 evo could it.
I'm thinking of buying an 2002 sherco 2.9. It seems to have been well cared for. I would like to hear your thoughts and experiances of this bike. Are they reliable? Any foul handling issues? How does it compare to modern bikes? Thanks Livio
ok, after reading i see it's a Complete new Bosis special Exhaust system, Front pipe and silencer with carbon cover. how does that exhaust change the power? Assuming it's a 290
Which motor is that? the pipe looks fourstroke, and at the cylinder it looks like the transfer ports of the two stroke. The black is distinctive, but how about a blue color scheme.
Ok i can see the kicker. It's the two stroke. Is that a full length muffler gaurd or the fourstroke silencer?
Thanks for the reply Ron. Scott said that he measured the stock rear spring and it measured out at .6kg. and the spring that he is using is made at .9 kg. I may be incorrect but i think that is 50% firmer. I will talk with him again.
One of the Beta dealers out East has done a few springs, maybe he'll chime in. I have talked to a spring company about doing some springs but sold my evo due to injury so I didn't get to do any at this time. So it has been done and I will have some done for my next evo.
I'm guessing you might be Ron Lee. I spoke with that fella "Debolt" a few weeks ago and he said that he liked the feel of the rear suspension with the firmer spring. I also spoke with Ron Commo jr. last week and he said that he rode the bike and he thought it was an improvement over stock for a large rider, but he didnt sound certain that it would work for me as Debolt is forty lbs heavyer than me. I dont understand why Beta dosent make a firmer set of springs for this bike. There is enough of a market to develop and build a bike but not firmer springs?
I weigh 250 lbs. and am riding intermediate trials. If im not jumping off stuff the front is ok, but with max preload dialed in to the rear spring it will bottom driving "not splattering" over a series of progressivly taller 30" tall rocks hard enough to feel a solid jolt through the pegs. I would like to get stiffer springs front and rear but Beta dosent offer any stiffer springs. Two experianced trials riders Mark Manniko, and Adrian at lewisport say that i shouldnt use a spring thats more than 20% stiffer front and rear. They are lighter than me and both more experianced. Their is one fella who says he weighs 290Lbs. and has made a spring that is 50% firmer than stock. He says it seems to work well for him. I am curious to know what other riders my size are doing to fix springs that they feel are too soft on this bike.
I am curious to know of the quality of a 97 250 techno. There is a very fresh looking techno for sale and i am considering making an offer of $1700. he is asking $2100. Are these good bikes or were the problematic with poor handling?
Have you considered a slower throttle? They feel as tho you added a flywheel weight. Also how about using the clutch to control traction. I just finished a class with Ryan Young, and he had us riding through sections in first, second, and third while slipping the clutch the whole way through.
