I am going to MOT the Seeley, The speedo that was supplied with it when new was never fitted to the bike. I noticed in The Four Stroke Finale book the Seeley in there had a speedo fitted low down on the right hand fork. The speedo drive on my bike is on the left and the cable is long enough to bolt the speedo on the top yoke. It is one of the last bikes produced, has anyone else got the same set up ? Also does anyone know what is the closest match for the red used on the frame. Thanks in advance.

i think im right in saying some were fitted with fantic type front end and some i have seen had honda front end so honda type must be low type speedo but i wont put money on it.the honda red paint the closest i have used on old hondas can be brought from car shops its daewo red.

dont forget you dont need a speedo to pass the MOT

You need a speedo, the tester needs to know the mileage evey year and you need to know how fast you are travelling at on the road.

Speedo isn't a requirement for MOT test itself, they just put not displayed as the odometer reading on the certificate, but you do need one and it must be working if you're riding on the road.

Seeley is fitted with what were the common Marzocchi front forks of the time, as fitted to early Fantic 200 and the speedo mounting on Marzocchi forks was always on the rear of the right hand fork leg. Most bikes using these forks had Grimeca hubs with the speedo drive on the right but the Seeley uses Honda CR hubs. If you have got a speedo fitted for the MOT they will take the reading, but it isn't part of the test to ensure it is working, if they notice it isn't it is just an advisory note, not a fail

Thanks all, I realise now it is not a requirement to have a speedo for the MOT but it is required to ride on the road (odd law that one). I have the Honda hub with the rubber in, so the speedo can go back in the box. Thanks again.
