January 23, 200818 yr I may be getting old but I find my 315R a little on the fast side in 1st, has anyone dabbled with a slower gear ratio. At present I have a 10 on the front and a 40 on the rear, looking at another bike at the weekend I noticed he had a 41 on the rear is this enough to make a difference or do I go for something smaller on the front? Regards Nick.
January 23, 200818 yr hi mate i have a 9 tooth on the front and 40 on the rear. that seams to be a good combo for me
January 29, 200818 yr Thanks for this post. I've had my 315 for 10 months and although I am getting used to it I just thought it was a bit lively, especially in second. Never thought about gearing but checked to find I had a 12 on the front!! Just ordered a 9 so we'll see how much slower the trees seem to be.
February 18, 200818 yr I found the Montesa gearing a bit fast myself. I ran a 10 - 42 combo with good results. I found I was more comfortable using 3rd gear than with the stock faster gearing. As a rule of thumb I've always heard 1 tooth in the front is equal to 3 in the rear.
March 17, 200818 yr Hi,mate.I started riding last year, thought my bike was ok,then a mate sugested dropping a tooth on the front,i now ride 9-41,it's a different bike now,i'm a lot smoother, bike is more predictable, best
March 25, 200818 yr I also would like to gear my 315R down. The bike came with a 10/43 combo, I feel a 9 up front would be more forgiving through the learning time on this new animal. My question is, what other Honda motor might share this spocket? or who makes the rear hub if I went with a 46 or 47 back there. Got Honda shops but not a Montesa. thanks for any info, Gary
