Here we go,

I have just bought a 250 Rev 3,the bike has red and black plastics.

I was told at 1st that the bike was 2001,then later told it was 2000.

Does anyone know how to correctly ID the year of the bike?

2000 was red and silver. Only Rev three with upside down forks.

Yep, if it has upside down forks then it's a 2000 model, but it may have been registered (or purchased new) as early as November 1999 when they were launched.
