Andy
Before I returned to trials riding full time back in 1997, I had been a regular competitor on the enduro scene, having ridden most British Championship (and North of England and Scottish) rounds for 14 years. I well recall David Knight taking part in his first British Championship round and have followed his progress since then. We first got to know one another when he was riding the British Expert Championship in trials, a series that he won, and it didn
chewy
Maybe it's a speciality of Jersey 2 day, I got a blackthorn through a glove snapped off in my knuckle went septic, went to hospital, junior (I reckon) surgeon cut it out "nicked" a vein , had an embolism (blood vessel burst) arm in sling for 2 weeks and it's still noticable now after 20 years. I understand the Jersey 2 day nowadays is more like a world round than a good weekend away. I've been going down into france (Aveyron)for a proper classic trial for rememberance weekend riding; its a proper job. Hope Mick San is on the mend I remember him telling us a story (at Richmond when it was a 2 day trial) about his first visit to I think it was the Suzuki factory as a works rider it confirmed what a great fun guy he is. gizza5
Don't know what the problem was at the weekend with Knighter's DNF, but the BMW seems to be a bit unreliable? as he didn't finnish Weston Beach Race either due to mechanical problems? The money must be good, but I am sure he would sooner like to be in the mix with reliable machinery, hopefully BMW will sort it and we see him back on the top of the podium where he belongs. Jeeeez how unlucky was Mick Grant, shudders down my spine thinking about it, hopefully all will be OK. .......and finally Mike your the only one who thinks that knock on your head hasn't affected you
pete_scorpa3
With you totally on the helmet point Mike. It amazes me to see parents who allow their children to ride cycles without a helmet, never mind people who ride trials without them, sometimes we need rules/laws to protect us against ourselves. gizza5
It amazes me to see parents who allow their children to ride cycles without a helmet or Skiing as in the recent news about Natasha Richardson, she apparantly felt fine after a small knock to her head on the ski slopes only to go to hospital a few hours later, the rest we all know. No you won't catch me without a helmet and like Mike I have cracked my head on a few branches.
cota kid
Knighter didn't finish the Tough Won on the BMW either. Saw one in the flesh at the bike show in Dubai and it looked average, the Germans must be paying well. Given time I'm sure he will get the most out of the bike. I always thought the long sleeves rule was a bit pointless, given you can roll your sleeves up. As regards helmets, only a fool would ride with out one. If I'm on the enduro its knee protectors, body armour, kidney belt, helmet, googles and a leat neck brace, everytime. The way I ride I need them all. fellonmelug
Totally agree on the helmet and boots , maybe at a push the long sleeves, but PLEASE dont make me wear gloves . They may protect against the odd cut but really dont give much protection and I hate wearing them .

endo
AMCA trials riders are required to wear helmets and have been for a long time. The BMCA do not insist that helmets must be worn. They ride early British bikes. I agree that Helmets and strong boots should be compulary.
