May 15, 200917 yr Paxau sherco. 125 08 block Revved the bike up for a splatter earlier, revved to about three quarter revs and the clutch just went bang and the bike went forward... then the clutch was as if it needed bled? now the lever is solid, like a rock! and even when I do manage to pull it in, it doesnt do anything... where to start? Jamie I am thinking a loose nut behind the wheel! Lay bike on side. Remove outer cover 4 screws. Remove the six 8mm bolts that retain springs. Lift off top clutch plate. Inspect for a loose clutch hub nut or a broken/ cracked clutch plate "basket" assy. Take piccys so we can shame you later for abusing the bike! Edited May 16, 200917 yr by copemech
May 16, 200917 yr Don't know if its loose nut holding clutch hub, had 1 loosen on either my 99 or 01 & in that case it had no drive at all due to it pushing on piece at end of pushrod as if lever was pulled in. The lack of slip and now hard lever has me wonder if the outer plate has somehow spun out of its groove at the top of basket or maybe even something coming loose & getting between pressure plate & cover.
May 16, 200917 yr Author Cheeky bugger you are, Mark... It's something I must of done hundreds of times which makes it even more annoying, small step leading onto a big climb, as can be seen here! Im hoping its something to do with the plates, the clutch has been dragging a bit the last week, like really hard to push with the clutch in. Will take a nosey later and get back to you all! May 16, 200917 yr Author Part of the casings sheared, one of the bits that stick up past the flywheel... no idea what would of caused this and the peice of metal aint under there so dont think its that, pics later!
May 16, 200917 yr Author Right, down to the retaining nut with the release rod inside, the nut was loose, so loose it could be done up by hand about 6 turns, anybody got any clues on how tight I should make this?
May 16, 200917 yr Author Another update, its not tightening up, something threaded at 43 ft lbs, bugger! Just hopeing its not the shaft!

May 16, 200917 yr Author Was told the best way to do it was to use a torqued airgun socket, the quick impact should tighten it before the engine could turn apparently! set it too 43 just to make sure not to over tighten, bugger!
May 17, 200917 yr So the nut and shaft threads are OK? Just lost some metal from the outer plate hitting the cover? -------" torqued airgun socket"------- Let me know as soon as you find one of those things you can set at 43! Or 45! The conversion from the 60NM spec i did suggests 44.25 I think it was. Oh, you can use an airgun easily enough, but they are not that easily controlled. BEWARE! the torque on this nut is sensitive, and you could well ruin the shaft! It is ealily enough done to zip them off and back on using an airgun, IF they are scribed together prior, but doing this with no refrence mark is questionable at best. A skilled individual can get close. I was probably younger than you when I had to learn to fix my own bikes, as could not afford otherwise, so i had to invest in the proper tools at times. This is a judgment call, use it! Where are the pics !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 17, 200917 yr Author Local garage did it, turns out the nuts buggered, not sure about the shaft, hopeing the nuts made from a softer material! Going to try the nut off my 06 first, just to check its not the shaft! Cant see much in pics, just a normal clutch unit with a loose nut, the nut hadn't flown off completely so no damage to be seen... Where in the uk can I get one of these clutch holding tools? Update: Shaft appears fine, tried my rear wheel axle nut on the shaft, good fit, no play so threads fine, now where do I get the original nut? Seems to be made from brass so specialist part? May 18, 200917 yr Where exactly on the cases has the piece come from, photo please. Are you sure it's not a finger off the clutch basket? Would explain the bang etc. Unless something has changed since last time I looked inside a clutch (never a paxau tho) the nut should just be mild steel because brass is not good at holding threads under the pressure trying to pull clutch apart

He doesnt have one in stock Got a new nut on the way though... will try Gary Macdonald and the rest of the locals first The bit in the casing was flywheel side, turns out its fine, looked at others and there the same... seeing bare metal worried me though!
