godzilla Posted January 13, 2010 Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 Im putting a full topend on my 315 (re-nicosil piston ect ect ect) and i have been given conflicting info about ring gapping by two well respected trials mechanics. one says no need to gap the rings as the tolerances are so fine, and the other say they need gapping to stop the piston nipping, i am undecidad any info or advice would be good thanks. betarick Posted January 13, 2010 Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 no need to gap rings your barrel will of been replated and then bored to orginal size! so just bang piston back in being carefull to locate them correctly on piston! stork955 Posted January 13, 2010 Report Share Posted January 13, 2010 Gday, as Tony said, check first. Pop the rings (one by one) into the bore and square them using the top of the piston. Keep them away from the ports to prevent damage. Dont use any force. You should have roughly 4 thou per inch of bore (0.1 mm per 25 mm of bore), a bit more is not a problem.
