Andy
Fabulous, absolutely fabulous. A great venue, with some superb riding, combined with brilliant organisation, produced a fantastic display, and a result from the first day that came close to the best possible from the Brits
toeneybow
great to see that the "so Called" simplist of sections, has taken marks from the best...... unfortuneately as an organiser i dont have the events to prove that this was possible, but i have always had the opinion that it could, i just cant or couldnt prove it myself. so its with great pleasure to see that martin, who did have the oportunity, duly showed us it would...... big praise to martin as im sure it would be easy to do just what johnny foreigner does, and just put indoor sections, outdoors.... the sad thing is, it wont be copied and it will prob be a couple of years at least before martin gets the oportunity again and we will probably of seen another twenty or so alterations to the rules by then!!!, to suit..... trials is a very easy concept, which is totally wrecked at world level and those that choose to copy it at brit rounds..... would add my appreciation to all the guys responsible for bringing us this "world trials round!" to our shores and hope one day that it will return to man and machine versus the "natural" terrain with the rules that we started with, and if your in doubt, that means, failure equals a 5.... simple aye!!! thanks once again
Andy
As I'm only out for the first lap it wasn't possible for me to do the sections at the bottom and the sections at the top on the same day so yesterday I did the bottom ones and today I went up the gondola and did the top ones. Sat there today (in the p*****g rain in true SSDT style!), if you took away the marker tape and the FIM section markers it felt like I was at the SSDT! And, to be honest, I've seen a lot of SSDT sections much harder than those they had to ride this weekend. Just goes to show you don't need the silly, dangerous stuff to take the points. All that's needed is to take them outside their comfort zone and major credit to Mart and Jake for realising that. I know for a fact one of the "Too easy" complainants on Friday was a certain Adam Raga. Hmm. Must have missed his podium finishes this weekend As this is a three year arrangement with the Trial des Nations at Aonach Mor next year and the return of the World Championship in 2012, I'll have a fiver now on every WTC rider applying to ride the 2012 SSDT
big john
That was one of the best organised events I have ever attended! A lot can be learned from the 2010 UK World Trial! Big John
chewy
Well said and well done to big Mart ; as toeneybow says (man and machine versus the "natural" terrain with the rules that we started with) Martin took the opportunity; what we can't possibly know about is the "political" lobbying that goes on behind the scenes; just so long as it is known there are plenty of people out here who appreciate real sections and real trials far more than the travelling circus. baldilocks
It was a fantastic weekend. I thought the upper sections looked too easy on the friday, thats the first time I have seen WTC section in about 20 years that I thought i could attempt without getting hurt. I thought the top guys would clean them without breaking sweat but I was way off. We went up for the second lap and looked at the scores from the first and could nt believe it. Well done to all for sections that a centre expert could have a go at without risk of injury which still took stacks of marks from the very best. This must be the style of section required to get more entries.
slapshot 3
The sections were simply PERFECT and the two days had all the interest, intrigue and drama you could ever want, it really was mindblowing stuff. THe sections at the top were brilliant following the width of the burn the whole way, okay there were a couple of nasty bits for the top guys but as has been said there were harder sections in the Scottish. The bottom burn sections were absolutley awesome, a bit more like what we'd maybe have expected to see, 4, 5 & 6 were some of the best sections I've ever seen and Michael Brown's clean on 6, first lap, Sunday was the best ride of the weekend for me. Even in the other categories there were some massive sections but every one of them was rideable, Gary MacDonald's clean on 6 yesterday afternoon was another cracking ride especially for a guy not used to this level. It's fairly well known that Martin Lampkin was my boyhood trials hero, well it would appear that our current world number one has a huge respect for the man as well. On 4 yesterday morning Toni had, for him, a bad 5 but decided to have a bitch at the observer for it, the observer was spot on in his judgement but as soon as Mart jumped in Toni and whichever minder was there clamped up and went on their way. He could have quite easily have gone off at Mart but didn't! One thing did leave a bt of a sour taste and that's the cheating and "Gardening" that still happens and it seems our "friend" Monsieur Camozzi is still at the heart of it. Saturday morning, up the hill, minder has largeish rock in hand, Camozzi starts engaging observer in conversation minder drops into the section and places the kicker at the bottom of the step. Cold and calculating, thought Raga said they were easy!! The biggest winner was us, the trials comminuty. We had an incredible show put in front of us this weekend, every single element of it. It was certainly one of the most incredible occasions I've ever been at and if you were not there you missed something pretty special indeed! Cammozzi makes Dave Thorpe ( a past master in section gardening) look like a rank amateur when it comes to "gardening" I have dvd from Aveyron 5 days where he is doing the heavy lifting) ...good job big Mart was hovering to sort them out, observing with this level of harrasment (part of the circus and quite normal practice in Europe) can't be much fun. somerled
What an amazing weekend we had. Thanks to the generosity of the organisers, staff and participants from RUTS were treated to some awe inspiring trials action. Brilliant venue, top class sections, superb weather and a great vibe made the whole weekend something to remember and plan for next year. What a great showcase for the sport, well done to all concerned.
copemech
Judging from the scores, I must agree that they hit the mark, well done! Having seen the preview pics of the sections, I knew it was going to be interisting, not that the piccies do total justice. I do think that the complexity of that type section along with the time limits imposed, in this WTC event, combine to create a lot of pressure on the riders, and therewithin the dabs are taken. And that should in itself be a lesson to many in how to do it! They seldome take dabs on big stuff with a setup!
for artie
Raga and Camozzi. Quite the pair.
subanator
I have now just caught up with the previous comments, as I have just viewed the trial on Pay TV or cable where its know elsewhere, having been only shown now in my part of the world. I have got to agree, this would have to be the best example of a trial in mind of the suggested changes last year. It is a credit to the course setters to bring back what is required in trials, a test of natural terrain and skill. (as per previous comments) The commentary on the show said it was previewed by riders before the trial that the sections were set too easy, well that opinion changed all too quick once undertaken. I dont follow World Trials all that much now, as the sport has resembled an extreme sport take on stunt riding -(cant relate to it), even more so with indoor trials and now taken to appropriate forum for this would be the "freestyle trials" recently held. WTC should resemble what the Fort William round offered in regards to a style that that can be related to all levels of trials riders, especially beginners. The longer sections did not allow time to "ponce about", so the riding became more free flowing and almost non-stop! (But the Fuji jump in the last section was still something special on its own!)
