April 27, 201115 yr front brake differs from rock hard to dead soft is this likely to be master cylinder failure? Check you have enough free play at the lever. The hole in the M/C which allows the fluid to flow back gets partially blocked with insufficient lever clearance and results in the brake feel becoming rock hard. Failing that bleed the brake right through so fluid is changed and check all pistons are moving.
