May 3, 201214 yr I am new to trials from enduro. I bought a cheapish bike, Sherco 290 to start with. Iexpected it to be more powerful. First 3 gears not too bad but when riding between sections, I feel as though fourth and fifth gears are extremely underpowered. Is this just how it is? To be honest, for a 290, I expected it to be far more pokey. Any advice welcome, thanks.
May 3, 201214 yr Take the flywheel off and advance the ignition...you'll soon put it back where it was (IMHO)
May 4, 201214 yr Welcome to Trials Central, for any queries, like yours, it's best to do a quick search in the Sherco forum...I think Copemech has done a good write up in the past. Wayne
May 4, 201214 yr I had a 2002. It had a pretty heavy flywheel so the power was very smooth. That is why I bought it but it copuld make it feel slow. There was a huge gap between 3rd and 4th gear that made any type of trail riding a little awkward. You may just be expecting too much from a trials bike. Compared to an enduro bike, I find that trials bikes have the bottom end power of an open class bike with a big flywheel, OK mid range and no top end.
May 5, 201214 yr You might try going to the 44T rear sprocket(42 stock) as this has the effect of narrowing the gap between 3-4-5 as long as you do not need the absolute top speed. First gear was a bit higher on that year as well, so it makes it a bit more usable. Some folks went to the 9T front(10 stock), But that is like adding 4 on the rear.
