Beta Rev 3 Running Problem

I’ve not long owned my Beta Rev 3 250 2stroke 2006 so pretty new to them.

Up until now it’s been running great but yesterday it started playing up and I was hoping for a bit of advice.

It started and ran fine for 10/15 minutes. It then wouldn’t rev cleanly and cut out. After a lot of kicking over (turned the petrol off and held the throttle open in case it flooded), it eventually started. Again it wouldn’t run right – when cracking the throttle the power would take a while to kick in and it started smoking pretty badly.

Rode it for a little longer and decided to cut the day short and head back to the van. I think by this point it was reluctant to tick over. After the engine stopped running there looked to be un-burnt oil at the end of the silencer still smoking and it seemed hot.

I’ve ordered a new plug and was going to strip the carb as I’m thinking blocked jet.

Does this sound like a common problem with these and has anyone got any ideas of what else to check out (I have read of the stator going on these).

Many thanks in advance.

Steve.

Similar problems on my Rev 3 were always resolved by stripping the carburetor and blowing out all jets (especially the pilot jet) and passages with carburetor cleaner. Beyond that you are probably looking at an electrical / timing issue, and there are numerous articles in this Forum on dealing with those.
