May 11, 201412 yr hi guys, just noticed today that my recently bought secondhand evo 250 seems to be sat low at the back end, I raised the bike up by lifting ) then let go, the back end sank back down again, Iv had the bike for about 2 weeks and been out quiet a bit, the rear shock has never bottomed out at all ( im 16 st ) and can ride it quite hard. Im just wondering if this is the norm ??? Any help would be great
May 11, 201412 yr I think the earlier Evos up to and including 2011s tend to be soft at the back end, the 2012 on bikes seem to be a bit stiffer.
May 12, 201412 yr First thing to check is the linkage arrangement for play. With the bike on a stand and the rear wheel off the ground hold the bike and try to lift the swinging arm. Some very small movement is acceptable but excessive movement is worn bearings or loose bolts. But it sounds as if you have too much sag in the shocker spring. Standing by the bike push down on the seat then release so that it comes up naturally. Then grip the silencer and try to lift the bike. It should only come up say 10-15 mm before the wheel comes off the ground. If it is a lot more, It may be that the adjusting nuts at the bottom of the spring have eased down the thread and reduced the spring tension. Get out your c-spanners and screw the top nut up the spring, keep checking the sag as above until it is 10-15mm, then follow up the bottom nut and lock the 2 adjusting nuts against each other. Hopefully that fixes it!
May 12, 201412 yr I think the std spring is for about 11 12 stone rider you can add another stone with your riding gear . Buy an uprated spring from sxs and it will liven it up a good bit
