September 1, 200520 yr My lad Trevor aged nine, received in the mail today Geico insurance information offering quotes for motorcycle insurance, who gives them this information ? only place I can think is the AMA,if so are they selling our personal info ?
September 1, 200520 yr Call Geico and ask. I imagine they are required to tell you. There are a lot of information gathering services out there that you can buy mailing lists from. We looked into several that we could purchase for the lawncare business to do targeted mailings, with the ability of computers to store so much information and sort and catogorize it, it was amazing too me how specific we could request the lists to be.
September 1, 200520 yr Author Called!! AMA is the source. They said they would remove him from the list, I'm not happy he was on a list in the first place.

September 2, 200520 yr I am not sure, but I seem to remember a box on the AMA membership form that you can check if you do not want them to share your info. I am always careful about things like this but although my mailbox always seems to be full of crap I never asked for, I don't get anything I could trace back to the AMA.
September 2, 200520 yr Author It was the AMA I called and asked,I know it's no big deal throwing junk mail in the trash bin, but shouldn't they ask you to sign for the permission to use your personal information rather than if you don't tick some obscure box we will sell your information to any Tom, Dick and con man who is willing to buy it. Most the riders in this area are not members of the AMA, and I very seldom use it, only time it is needed is for US national events, and I haven't ridden any in the past two years, I informed them that if the junk mail keeps on coming it will go in the bin, so will the next membership renewal.
September 2, 200520 yr I've told my wife I'm going to build a furnace that I can use to burn junk mail. Just keep it all year and heat your house for free all winter!

September 2, 200520 yr My Dad sends the junk mail back in the pre-paid envelope. It doesn't cost them 'owt if you simply throw it in the bin but it costs them the price of a stamp if you send them their own junk mail back - Revenge isn't expensive
