Evo 300 4T Something Missing?

After poor running I found the carb to be missing what I believe to have been a blanking cap, but can anyone confirm it is just a blanking cap or is it something more technical?

With it missing I think it would of made the bike run lean due to the open end delivering unfiltered air directly into the slide area of the carb!

It does indeed have blanking plug and they do perish as you can see by the pic of my wife's 250 4T. On my next parts order....its a year old.

In fact... I might pop down to local bearing supplier and grab a plastic blanking plug verses the cheap rubber stock one and no more perishing for ages.

Jfc, take a look at http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/42991-where-does-this-rubber-thingy-go/?hl=portman#entry313751 .

Lampkins could never find a part number so couldn't provide a replacement. I ended up using something I had in the workshop, although it seals off the tube completely.

I couldn't detect a difference in the performance (save that the backfiring problem mostly disappeared) but perhaps it explains why I still ride like a wuss!
