Hi all

my lad has never used a motorbike and is quite a small 12 yr old,he just wants a starter bike to use on the fields i have permission on.

Could anybody please make any suggestions ?

 Yamaha ty 80. Gear it down so the clutch does not matter. Hours of fun and you should not lose a dime.

Depends what your budget and mechanical knowledge is. An electric bike such as an oset will be easier to learn to ride, zero maintenance but expensive.

 

A ty 80 is a good start, but you may go a long way to find one.

 

A beta 80... 

 

Dont laugh, but if you just want him to learn to ride a bike and not specifically a trials bike, a pit bike is just about your best bet on a budget.

My son is 11 and not particularly big.

 

I bought him a beta 80 earlier this year after ruling out an Osset as I thought I would have to change it very quickly.

 

The beta 80 is spot on and an easy starter.

 

 

Forgot to Add bumpy in West Yorkshire has an excellent training facility to get him started and also practice once he gets a bike and passed the initial stages

 It`s been awhile since my son had his. I want to say 11-48 and my 200 pound friends use a 54.

so lineaway, how does this work?

 

I change the sprockets to the sizes you've suggested, I follow that

 

what happens then? you start the bike, it ticks over nicely in neutral, you pull the clutch & put it in gear then let out the clutch without twisting the throttle & you don't move until you rev it? 

 

& then you just stay in the one gear then roll off the throttle to stop plus using the brakes?

 

sorry if it's a dumb question!
