Was just wondering what the upper plastic chain guide function is. It seems to sit too high for chain alignment. The reason I ask is because it is a mud magnet. I'm wondering if I could just remove it.

It's a token piece of plastic manufacturers feel obligated to put between your leg and the chain.

I think its a legal requirement for UK road use.

 

Strangely at Adult MX gearbox sprocket guards are not needed, but if you ride adult MX class at a practice day organised by a schoolboy club you have to have a gearbox sprocket guard even though adults ride in separate group.

I have skinny legs; should be alright
