February 3, 201610 yr Hi all , just got a 175 Yammy trials and the guy said he uses silcolean 2 stroke oil at 50 to one would this ratio be right and do I need the standard 2 stroke oil of silcolean? Thanks for any Imput John.
February 3, 201610 yr nothing wrong with silkolene, but I do use it at 40:1 on air cooled bikes (without any problems or smoke)
February 3, 201610 yr I use Morris fully synthetic MX two stroke oil at 40 to one in the trials bikes and 30:1 in the race bikes, never had a plug whisker. Doesn't smoke like the old days but always a good coating of oil when I strip the motors.

February 3, 201610 yr Author Thanks Spen, that will do for me then @ 40to one. Just mention did have in the seventy/80s a 350 clubmans Goldie dbd with lots of Taylor bits on it had to sell it when I went bust!!!! Remember getting £1000.00 For it , Doh! Cheers
February 3, 201610 yr If we kept all the bikes we'd sold, given away, broken, et cetera we'd be rich men. Here's some of what I get up to..... www.spencerracing.co.uk
February 3, 201610 yr I consulted Silkolene and they said 50 to 1 unless using in sand etc where a bit more was recommended due to the motor working harder. Semi synthetic. Oils are much better now than when we ran 50 to 1 thirty years ago.
February 5, 201610 yr The amount of oil depends on how your using the engine. Classic air cooled race bike steel liner 20:1 on R. Modern watercooled race bike plated barrel 30:1 semi. We used to run our TY175 at 50:1 synthetic. My Fantic, air cooled plated barrel 70:1 synthetic. To be honest I think you could probably run a TY with a less oil than a 50:1 mix but in all the time we ran the TY we never had a problem at 50:1.
