Fantic Distinctive Sound.

Featured Replies

As above, what gives them this distinctive sound when in motion, is it the way the gears are cut?  as I'm led to believe. I remember them sounding different back in the '80s but especially liking it now that I've finally got my own. What other old trials bikes had that distinctive whine, SWM may be? I can't remember for sure. I like it, and it's not from an old worn out motor either!

Early swim's and climbers have the "whine as the crankshaft pinion / clutch basket are straight cut gears. Later swm's and TX TXR Aprilia's are helical cut.

It's the same whine that you hear in straight cut gears in old Minis and Escorts.  It is as said above the gear teeth.
