There is no "best" gearing set up per say, it's about finding the set up which suits your style of riding best. It's more about understanding WHY you want to play about with the gearing rather than just copy someone elses set up, unless you know that works well for you of course, because you've tried it. Best benchmark to work from is the standard set up !! HTH.

From memory 10:42 is about the best bet. Some prefered 43 or even 44 on the rear, but this seemed to make bottom very short.

I felt the 42 Rear was about right, gave you good use of first 4 gears and if ever you couldn't decide between Bottom and Second, you could always use bottom and not run out of steam.
