Recently rescued the bike from a carport in Tecate, co worker gave it to me. After a thorough washing discovered a rat had ate the filter and lived in the air box for awhile luckily nothing got past the carb. I believe it's a '93 no vin # on eng jus a mdl # on frame so far the insides look good so still waiting for gaskets and have completely stripped from top to bottom. My local Yamaha dealer had never heard of one so parts from them was a nogo. Does anyone still sell the footrest lowering kits? I've read about them. If anyone has any info I would love the help. Thomas

Hi guys I am sure I read somewhere about using a Montesa 315r on a modified TY250 twin shock airbox I have seen the one on the very cool highly modified TY in one of the mags and on here but that uses a custom airbox and I want to use a standard ( but of course modified ) airbox Has anyone done this mod - if so can you please tell me how you did it or even better if you have a picture

I recently acquired (and tonight, got running!) an 84 TY250 mono from Canada, but I'm in the states. It was brought over for use at someone's camp, and has clearly seen better days. But: it seems to have good compression, is mechanically in decent shape, and looks like crap. I've got some exhaust leaks to sort out, and it seems the muffler is full of muddy old oil. Is there a way to clean it out? Take it off, flush with gas and let air dry for a few days maybe? I'm not sure, and not willing to try that yet. I didn't see any convenient cleanout plates. Maybe an aftermarket replacement for the whole assembly? Mine's dented, and brazed, and epoxied, and in generally…

Long story short, connect the kill switch and no spark. Depress the kill switch and there is spark. I connect a toggle kill switch and it has spark in the off position and does not in the on position. The bike is a TY80 for kids to learn on so I would like the toggle switch to read correct. Somewhere it appears some wires have been crossed. Anyone familiar with this issue? Ideas of what might be causing this? Thanks,

Yamaha can't deliver pistons and some people use IT250 pistons in their TY's... Ist it plug & play or are there changes to made ? Difference in engine power ? Is that the right piston ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1983-Yamaha-IT250-WISECO-040-OVER-69mm-PISTON-IT-250-515M06900-/330786664446?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d046beffe

Good evening folks. I'm in the process of rebuilding an American import 1974 Ty 250 which turned out to have a 320 piston and barrel, it had a fair amount of piston slap so it's been rebored by Nigel Birkett to second oversize and is now up and running. However, it suffers from pre-detonation, a leaded additive for the fuel has helped but it still bangs away sometimes and is fitted with a black coloured 'JT'carb'. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction and confirm what carb and jets it should have as well as how I stop the detonation? Many thanks. Pete.

I've just got a Yamaha TY80 for my son and was wondering what the oil / petrol ratio was? The oil / petrol is mixed in the tank and the closest guess I have is 20:1 which is what my FS1-E was, back in the day> Also, the bike would have tun on leaded fuel. Do I need to get a fuel supplement for unleaded? I haven't ridden trials since the 80s (I used to have a Bultaco and a Montesa) and so am a bit out of touch. Thanks.

Hi all, The other day we went and picked up a Ty that my Dad had bought off a guy on eBay for a new project. The bike isn't in the best condition but it has a really strong engine with no rattles. And the bash plate has barely any scratches showing that it has had very little use too. But once we got it home we noticed that the front down-tubes on the frame were bent. He has three other 250's (an "A",a "B", and an "E") and none of them have bent tubes. There are no signs of dents on the tubes or any damage at all really. So I was just wondering if anybody has seen this before. Could it be factory? Or is it just damaged? Cheers, Zac P.S, Sorry for the bad photos…

Anybody know why I keep blowing plugs on my nephews ty80? I bought it a month ago, been out 3 times and had to change the plug 3 times. Is there anything that might be causing the plugs to fail? It seems to run all day perfect yet next day don't seem to get a spark, fit a new plug and away she goes again. Any advise would be most appreciated

Can bigger wheels be fitted to TY80 rather than the standard 16 front and 14 rear? If possible what are the options to fit?

hi everyone,if anyone can shine a light on this i would be very grateful,we have among other bikes a ty80 which has just had a re bore, new piston etc etc(carb rebuild kit about 3 outings ago) so today our first outing since the re bore and after about 1-2 hrs of gentle riding(no more than half revs) with a couple of little breaks in between we stopped for something to eat and drink(20 mins) and when we went to start it it wouldn't start, there's a good spark, stripped carb and nice and clean and clear?? seams strange as it didn't break down,we stopped it.
