Hi, I've been restoring a 1977 Yam Ty250. The forks are in really good condition apart from one which has 3 spots (quite deep) and the threads are about to give up on the legs where you bolt on the mudguard bracket. Fitted new seals and clips before riding it at the weekend and the seal has gone! My questions are although I can have them re-chromed are the forks off a mono (36mm) any better? Any advice? Im assuming I will also need to have the wheel, brakes and clamps to match? do these fit directly to an twinshock Yam. One thing I notice is that the spindle is not centrally located as on the twinshock, will this make a difference? Cheers

So I bought a new rear tyre for my Ty 250 mono that I'm restoring and bought a tubeless Dunlop. When I took the old tyre off I spotted that it was tube tyre with a tube fitted. So I was wondering... 1) Could I fit a tubeless tyre without a tube? 2) Can I fit a tubeless tyre with a tube inside? 3) How important is the internal rim tape when a tube is installed? The current one looks original! 4) Is an internal rim tape for a tube tyre different to a tubeless? It was also the first time I'd removed a rear tyre. Talk about something putting up a fight!

Further to my first post, I have a 175 that was starting first kick with the choke on but then when you put the choke in it died. After some advise on here I stripped the carb and cleaned and checked all the jets etc, mixed new fuel 50:1 cleaned out the tank which was full of bits of fibre glass but a new fuel hose on. Put the carb back together and the bike started fist time without choke and ticket over nicely. But when I took the bike for a spin it seemed to bog down without much power as if it was choked, then it stopped and wouldnt re start. What I have done so far. Stripped the carb again. ( wont start and backfires) Took out the new fuel and put the old fuel b…

When I brought my 1974 TY it had a twin spark plug head which I suspect is from a DT, I have now purchased the correct head from Ebay and am going to swap it out, I am just curious as to if this is a standard mod or just a one of on my bike.

I have just been trying to find out the year of my Ty 175,to find that the engine number looks like it has been ground off and the frame number reads * 13 E - 000284* . I found a chart on the net and it looks like it might actually be a 125 frame. How would I check the engine cc without a number.? And I am correct in saying that the frame is a 125? Cheers

Hi all, My mono has a very weak spark. I have replaced the ignition coil, cap, plug. The readings for the source coil and pick up coil are ok and Im now thinking it must be the cdi. The next prob is where to get one from? Anyone else had this prob? Cheers

I have had a problem with the bike only running with the choke out, only needed to be out a little but would rev high then die if you closed it completely. I have ( fingers crossed) sorted it out by cleaning the carb, taking out the jets etc etc and blowing out with comp air. It popped and spluttered at first but now seems ok. My question. How do you set the carb up for normal field use? I have had a look in the owners workshop manual but can,t seem to find anything about setting the mixture. Thanks

I dunno, something like a dt400 or dt of any sort (drum obviously). Im struggling getting a rear wheel and although ive got a Talon rear hub I cant justify the prices they want for a rim and spokes. Its getting a bit frustrating because the bikes good to go apart from the rear wheel. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

This bike motor (TY250D with standard carby) started running a bit unsteadily at very low RPM a while back. I have serviced carby and ignition with no fault found or improvement in the way the motor runs found. Today I took the reed cage out for a look and found the petals were not sitting against the seats. I tried turning them over but it made no difference - there was still a gap. I then held them curved for a while and assembled them with the inside of the curve against the cage, and the gap was reduced, but still there. I'm suspecting there might be a problem with the alignment of the reed mounts relative to the reed seats. These Boyesen reeds have been in the bike s…

Hi all, I´m not a TY guy (had a used mono in about 1990). Theres a red and white 1977 twin shock TY 350 for sale and I didn´t ever hear of there being a 350 one. The seller says it has registration documents where it says TY250 but he´s got a pic of the barrel that say´s 350 (351 cc exactly). It´s not cheap as he want´s 1250,00 Euros and its a non runner thats been standing outside with rust on the forks etc. etc. Any information about the 350 from 1977 would be interesting !
