Hi guys, I have been contemplating putting a ty mono engine into a twinshock frame. I know this has been done before, but wondered what was involved and any potential pit falls before i bite the bullet and have a go. I'm sure you helpful lot will be of assistance..

Looking for an answer, I have a TY250 with engine serial number consisting of a "2 digit number" followed by an "arrow". The number is appears stamped in with a flat screw driver or punch. The vertical lines under the number look original, I have another engine to compare it to. Does this mean the case was replaced with a spare part? Has anyone seen this type of numbering?

Where does the top yoke clamp sit on the fork stanchion, on the wider section at the top or just below that on the narrower section? Cheers

Anybody know if you can remove the clutch operating shaft without stripping the engine? Just asking cos i want to extend the arm on the top to make the clutch operation a bit lighter and dont fancy welding with it in situ. Thanks

Just been giving my forks a go over as they felt a bit knackered, stripped them down to find the left fork bottom was binding real bad on the stanchion and after a few hours of poking at it with a bit of wet and dry on the end of a wooden curtain pole it looks like the things sliding nice and free now. Put it all back together and the suspension is now so much better. I noticed whilst playing around with the forks just how much rake there is in the yokes alone and was wondering if anybody has thought of a way to pull back the rake so that the stanchions are more parallel with the stem. I have a few ideas of my own buts perhaps you guys have a better idea and perhaps an op…

It's that long ago and had far too much cider since then but i cant for the life of me remember what gearing i used to have on my old TY250R back when. For my sins i've just bought another one as a project to do up so guys whats std gearing and is there a better alternative?

So, I've taken the plunge and purchased myself a ty250 mono that needs a little work and a few choice mods. The model I have features the drum brake front, which I'm looking to upgrade to disc. I was wondering if anyone knows of a front end from another more modern bike that will fit straight into the ty's yokes ??? Thanks.

Hello, im building a special using DT forks (DT175 I think) but wanting to use the TY175 front wheel, the wheel fits fit but the TY175 wheel has a brake plate on it thats secured by a steady arm (torque arm?) on to the fork leg where as the DT fork leg accepts a brake plate via a oblong cut out on the plate and corresponding oblong wedge on the base of the fork. Does anyone know of a front brake plate that fits a TY175 or 250 front wheel that has a cut out oblong shape the goes on to the front forks from another model, such as other TY's or DT's etc. the other option is the use the DT wheel i have but its a chrome rim and not alloy or rebuild the DT hub into the TY whe…

Hi, I am just getting back into trials riding I had a 348 cota about 16 years ago and have just bought a 1984 TY250. I know its not a twin shock but I hope someone here can help. I am trying to restore it to as near as new condition as I can but that ae a few issues the triangular brackets the bolt from the cylinder head to the frame are missing, if you have one can anyone please draw me a diagram with dimensions cheers. And then there’s the seat tank combo, with the front tank bolt in place and the rear seat locators popped in the two parts don’t match up very well, it looks like they are about 50mm too far apart. I can’t make any sense of this has anyone any ideas? Reg…

Hi could anyone who has a stock 1984 TY250 Mono take some dimensions for me : all the dimensions of the bracket between the head and the frame on the seat panel the distance from the knobs that locate in the frame at the back and the front edge where it meets the tank the total length of the seat panel Many thanks Davey

I need a new rear tyre for my recently acquired TY175. Can I use a Michelin X Light with an inner tube in it? Reduced unsprung weight being my objective you see, or am I going to get punctures constantly? ( I don't do much rocky stuff btw) Cheers Bill

Hey Guy's I'm looking at rebuilding the topend of my o'l ty250,just a question ( remember that I'm not a mechanic ) The top of the piston has two marks stamped on it : an arrow that points to the exhaust which obviously shows position of the piston and the other mark is a small > any idea what this indicates ,oversized piston maybe ? I bought this bike a couple of years ago and until now have never had it apart ,the previous owner did'nt know much about the bike either; other than he thought that it may have been punched out at some point ... All ideas and suggestions on my little project would be greatly appreciated Thanks M_lo

I'm thinking about trying out some of the Magicals front fork springs on my TY175 as the old ones feel a little tired. Has anyone fitted them and noticed a change that would justify me buying some. Cheers for any replies.
