Hi Just got a TY250 Mono - red frame so reckon around 1985 ish. Does not run well so amongst other things I looked at the silencer The rear silencer seems completely clogged with oil/carbon and I want to know if I am wasting my time trying to clean it? I think from reading other posts that I cannot burn it out as it has glass fibre in it which will melt. I tried soaking it in brake cleaner for 24hrs and it has taken some off but still reallly clogged. It is clogged to the point that if you pour brake cleaner in 1 end it wont run out the other so I assume neither will the exhaust gases be able to flow the way they are supposed to! Is the fibre removable? or does it…

Hi Guys Not new to dirt bikes , but certainly new to the Pinky , so any advice gladly accepted and appreciated .... first dumb question{s} 1. Engine "rattle" on over run ... is this normal ...sounds like the piston is trying to escape ! 2. As with above "pinking" ... dont think the bikes had lots of use so might just need a good blast and will fuel up using Castrol Power1 {old TTS} and Shell V Power {as I gather Pinkys like high octanes} Thats about it for now , feel free to pitch in , not looking to set the trials world alight , but some nice results in the Over 50's would be great .. I have a couple of TY 250 ( 2A and 1B ) and I am pretty sure that I could do better with the air intake. I run Mikuni round slide ( std VM 26mm ) with the exhaust is clean on my rider and a KT250 motocross silencer will be install on my project. I finaly found the correct jetting on the Mikuni VM, now low end and midrange torque are a lot better than with the small 26mm Mkuni of the B model and the poor KT carb from the A model, and throttle response is quick and predictable. But, I think that the air flow is not as good as it could be, so I am thinking changing the standard air filter system. Availability is not so great in Quebec and I don't want to order 265 thousand …

G'day, Just trying to work out whether my new purchase Pinky has a bent frame or had a major tumble. Can anyone with a mono tell me whether the two rear mudguard mounts should line up parallel, ie the bolt holes line up opposite each other. Looking at the rear of my bike the right hand strut sits higher, or has been bent up that way. The mudguard has never sat straight either,twisting to the right, and this discovery may explain why. I'm also a bit suss about the main frame piece that bolts to the base of the engine. I'd like to make sure the frame is right before I waste time and money getting it painted and put the whole show back together, so would really appreciate an…

Hi All, Can somebody help with some tips on fitting the SMP front pipe to the standard mid section on a TY175? I'm guessing I need to leave part of the standard front pipe attached to the mid section and then fit the SMP front pipe over it. Thinking I would then slot the front pipe where it connects over the standard mid section and use a hose clamp to attach. Been advised that this will mean some resizing of the front pipe to fit over the standard diameter pipe at front of mid section. Id prefer this to welding as 1. I dont have a welder and 2. this will make disassembly/reassembly easier. Thanks

Greetings from Brisbane, Australia. Finally got up my first trials bike - YamahaTY250R Pinky mono. Fairly original condition, but needs some serious TLC which I'll get stuck into over winter. My TY175 rattles, it rattled before and it rattles now! It rattled a bit when I got it, after a few outings it got worse, so it all came apart. It was on it's last bore, so: Barrel was relined (by reputable person) and machined to fit a new Wiseco Piston. Crank had a new Conrod with new big and little end bearings. New piston pin. New Main bearings and seals All fitted together with care and new gaskets, twice! All the parts came from a reputable company, so I presume they're good quailty, tried and tested. I went to the Telford show with the intention of buying a Twinshock trials bike, after extensive canvassing of our local Classics club members opinions. Two hours into the show, my wallet is lighter, and I'm the proud owner of this: The bike was on Ian Pebery's stand, but wasn't one of his. Hi folks, Been scouring this section ever since I aquired a Whitehawk framed TY 175 a couple of weeks ago. There have been a few issues with it, which I have sorted with help both from here and friends (Hi Johnny!) One of the main bugbears is the kickstart, not staying where I put it. Now I have an idea of what it is, from comments on here, but would like some knowledgeable person or persons to confirm it. Occasionaly after starting the bike, the kickstart returns to a place higher than it was. I first thought this was worn splines on the actual lever knuckle, but have just confirmed that it isn't. I'm looking to modify my 1977 Yamaha TY175 to make it more suitable for my size and for trials competition. But before I spend a ton of money I thought I would ask those who have hopped up their bikes for some advice on what works and what doesn't. Thanks in advance for the help. hi i am looking at a 1980 ty175.... been told it runs ok but looks a bit rough in the pics. what should i be checking on it and look out for? i did have one 30 years ago but cant remember what it was like. what kind of money would this be worth if it needs a general going over...like fork seals, some bearings. paint job ect???
