Anybody smarter than me, I have to install a flat sprocket on a TY 250B and I don't remember ( I didn't write it down ) the tickness of the spacer I need, the one I put on my other TY seem's to be 4 mm thick. I can't measure it without tacking the sprocket off and I don't want ( or am too lazy ) to take it off. Guy

Hello I have a TY175 twinshock with standard forks and am looking at moving up to something a bit better. I know I can go to the TY250 forks but I was wondering if anyone else had gone a step further with modern forks from say a Gas Gas or similar. I've read that 38mm is popular? Any suggestions or experiences? What bike could I take them from TY250 FORKS A bit better Using standard TY175 wheel brakes etc MODERN FORKS A lot better Do I use the whole front end inc wheel etc or just the forks and yokes If using the TY175 wheel, do i have to have a new spindle made? I need to retain the basic look and the drum brake of course Thanks for any help Owen

I have read a thread about using an RD200 kick start on a TY175. I bought one and it does work although the kickstart boss is set at an angle reducing the kick stroke. The splines on the boss are shot so it needs replacing. The RD kickstart appears heavy duty. My question is, if I by a new TY boss will the RD kickstart lever fit on (i.e. the lug with the circlip at the top)? I know the RD level may need a bit of bending etc. I need a new assembly to work. The TY boss is around

I've been restoring a TY50 which is almost complete. After sorting the electrics it starts no problem and ticks over really nice. Problem is on opening the throttle it bogs really badly, throttle off and it will tick over no problem. I've changed needle height with no luck. The oil pump has been removed and now on premix - and also I've had to add an aftermarked 'bolt on' filter as there was no filter on the bike. Any advice appreciated ! cheers John

Hi Just purchased a bike for rebuild and wondering if anyone can advise the following: 1. What psi should i get when the bike is kicked over? Im getting a max of around 75 psi on the gauge? 2. Kick start sometimes engages sometimes not any suggestions? 3. Also got no spark from the coil, ammeter giving 12000 secondary and about 1 -2 ohms primary? (Book says 6000 and 5-6 repectively?) 4. Have checked the wire to the coil and ammeter showing 1.5 ohms as per book, but when kicked over doesnt seem to emitting any charge? any ideas what this should be? Appreciate any advice please. pete

My 1985 TY250 has always (well for the year that I've had it anyway) been really hard to turn over on the kickstart - and I'm not a little lad either! The mains and conrod were rumbling, so I've stripped and replaced them and the seals etc ........... and now it's even more difficult to turn over! I was turning it over by hand (using the clutch) as it was being assembled - that was until I fitted the head and spark-plug - so it's free enough. If I take the spark-plug out it's OKAY; but put the plug back in and it's like a diesel to crank over. I don't know if it's a TY piston - as it was rebored previous to me buying it - but the piston doesn't foul the head or the s…

Hi, can anyone tell me the tread size and pitch for the stud that comes out of the TY175 petrol tank? Mine is the Sammy Miller tank/seat unit, but I would think they are the same as the standard tank. I'm looking at it and guessing 16mm x1.5mm. The tap is beyond repair and someone has liquid welded the floating nut to the stud which is now cracked. I have carefully cut off the nut without damaging the stud threads and cleaned off the bad repair job. Only thing is the stud now moves partially in and out of the tank. I intend to put on a hex nut (to act as a lock nut) fibre-glassing it in place before putting on a new tap with floating nut. Many thanks, Rich

I have a TY80 I bought for my son. It's in nice shape cosmetically, burns clean, starts great, and has *lots* of mid range power; ticks like a watch at idle too. But throttle response from idle/low RPM to maybe 2,000 RPM is lackluster at best; it feels like the idle jet is off a bit or the throttle slide cutout is too big. The jets are clean. But before I start messing with changing out carb parts I thought I should see what tuning advice this community has to offer. I'd love to hear any general TY80 tuning tips, but I'll start with some specific questions: Should I be expecting snappy off idle response out of a 80cc bike made in the 70s? I mean it works as is, but I w…

Had to do the hacksaw trick to remove the pivot bolt from the sleeve on the swinging arm. Anyone know the best way to get the old bushes out? Soak them in some noxious liquid, gasket remover, acetone etc? 1976 TY175. Thanks, Jon.
