Hi, what is the status of this Yamaha TYS250F that was being used in the WTC Japan round, see: Looks surely like the discontinued Scorpa 250F but why would current WTC contenders be using such an "old" machine? Or is Yamaha readying it for sale as a Yamaha now that Scorpa dropped Yamaha engines? Cheers, Fons. ----- Yamaha TY250Z Beamish RL325 Montesa 348 MR Honda TL250

I know it has been more or less covered before but ............ can anybody tell me which system is the best to put on my majesty (185 going to 200 soon) rebuild, at the moment it has a one piece wes but it is very loud (so think the packing that cannot be replaced is carboned up and lost it's absorbing properties), I am under the impression that the two piece wes is the better option, works better and re packable ? is it necessary to buy one of the new front pipes to go with new silencer(s) also anyone any idea which will fit straight onto my mini majesty, last thing as I see it there are three main outlets for these exhaust systems, anyone know if they are all the same…

My TY175 has the side stand coming off the left hand foot rest plate. I am thinking about getting lowered footrests and using one of these (see link) instead of bodging my existing stand onto new footrest mounting plates. http://ultimatebikebitz.co.uk/details.asp?PartNo=891921 Has anyone used these or something similar? Any feedback appreciated.

Hi I just purchased a new electronic ignition system from Powerdynamo.biz it has just been made available on the market and I purchased the first one they made. It comes with everything from the stator plate to the fly wheel in the kit. I fitted it in around 30 mins, you need to have a TDC tool and a gear puller (the original puller is different), but apart from that it really was VERY simple to fit. You can have it with or without the lighting kit for around

The (obviously new by appearance) lever on my TY 175 seemed to be what is generally available ie a poor quality item which did not fold in correctly and sat at the wrong angle such that it was near impossible to use with muddy boots. Anyway it has now broken at the boss and I wondered if anything else, old or modern, would fit. Any ideas, even if only a lever to fit the pivot that I have left?

Hi, Have finally fulfilled my for 5y maint/improvement plan..Yes, she is running like a dream. Will increase 2-3t at rear sprocket from 10-35, because of more power per crank turn. Did reflect over a need for 36-37 last year at modern clubman..now its absolute required. Embarresing when I looked at the none worn piston because of liner, was.. Unfortunatley Ive changed 3 things not tested separatley this winter: rebore, reedcage from Jons CR125 Boyesen and pipe from Sammys.. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary The only improvement idea of mine is reedcage replacement, rest is sum up of what people has done over the ~27…

I have just stripped my TY 175 engine down so I can change the damaged crank case and on cleaning the carbon of the top of the piston I noticed it has 125 stamped on the top. I bought the bike as a box of bits which the previous owner had dismantled. The frame and engine numbers don't match so I am wondering if a 125 head and piston have been fitted at some time or dose the 125 stand for something else. The good thing is that the piston and cylinder are in tip top condition. Can anyone shed any light on this?? Iain

I want to remove the speedo from my TY250, it hasn't been working for a while anyway by the looks of things. I've sourced a new (2nd hand) brake plate because the casting had broke on mine where the torque arm bolts on. But, the cable's snapped off, and the speedo drive gear/worm drive are seized solid, and I just can't see how to get the cable out? I planned to remove it completely and fill the hole up, but even on the old brake plate which isn't seized I can't work it out with all the gubbins removed. Any advice? Cheers

Hi All I've just got round to fitting the Trail & Trials UK gear change mod for the TY175 after having it sitting around for 6 months. I took all the old bits out, put the new bits in and followed the instructions. The gear lever no longer slops around like it used to. BUT - now I am having trouble selecting a gear. The leaver goes down to a stop or up to a stop but doesn't take bike out of neutral. Before I go back and start all over again does anyone have any tips/advice/etc? Thanks in advance.

Hi, has anyone tried boring out ty175 yokes from the standard size to take 35mm diameter forks? Are they strong enough if you take out enough metal to fit 35mm forks into them? Thanks for any advice you can give. Alan

Rode in a Trial last weekend on my 74 TY250A. 3 Sections had creeks, so I was in the water 9 times (dumped it one of those times). My problem: After about the third wetting my brakes would lock up and not allow we to move the bike backwards - moved forward fine. I assumed the glue on one of the shoes had softened and the shoe had come loose. This has happened to me before and the shoe then comes over the other shoe and locks the wheel up. Not so this time. I have everything apart and there is nothing (that I can see) that would cause the wheel to lock up on either forward or backward movement. It does appear that there are grind marks on the side of the shoes (int…

Hi, just had my TY rebuilt, it would'nt run properly when I bought it so thought I would have the engine rebuilt. Had new bearings, rod, piston (not genuine, from ebay ?) points, condenser, Wes pipe, and stainless front pipe. Will run, just, starts first kick but wont rev. Pulling choke makes no difference. When I bought it the guy had put a new carb on it but its not the 525 Mikuni. Am I waisting my time until I get the right carb ? Cheers

Had a look at the chain tensioner last night with a view to ordering a new spring and block, but it seems it's in worse condition than I thought, the sleeve part of the tensioner that goes over the stud on the swing arm is all worn away on the one side and ovalled out. I might be able to find a second hand replacement on eBay, but does anyone know if there are any alternatives available? There seem to be after market versions (smp) for the 125 & 175, but not the 250. Are they much different? I noticed the spring is actually the same for all models. Any advice or help welcome! Cheers

Can anyone tell me if the flywheel threads are the same on a ty350 as the ty250a? I am attempting to remove the flywheel on the 350 and I am using the tool that fits my ty250a but can't seem to get the puller to "take" and don't want to mess up the threads.

The Yamaha manual for the TY175 show a specific puller for pulling the crank into the left hand case does anyone have dimensions or a photograpgh of one it looks fairly simple to make from the line drawing in the book but it would be nice to have some measurements
