Hello all, this is my first post so please be gentle. I know nothing about trials biking. I recently bought a TY80 for my son to use on my parents farm. It was in full working order but a bit tatty, so it's been stripped down cleaned, full respray, replacement stainless bolts, new cables etc. All was going well until I went to fit the new chain and found it is approximately 6 inches longer than the old one. I've checked the Haynes manual and it should be the right on for a standard bike, DID 420 106. The rear sprocket is standard 41 T however the front sprocket is 13 T (rather than standard 12T) but surely this can't account for such a difference in length. I don't see an…

Hi, My TY175 is standard i think, but i am using it for long distance trials and could see a benefit for taller gears for the road work. I could change up the front sprocket from 13 to a max of 17 - anyone have any experience on what would work? Also are there implications for a new sprocket meeting an old chain, and would i need to shorten the chain? cheers

Hello, to all. After 30+ years of mx just got my first trials bike. '85 TY350 and hoping I could get some help/advice. Rode it around in backyard today and wow, felt like fish out of water, but this is going to be fun. Any drills you could recommend to help ? Also as I run Maxima 927 @ 40:1 with 50/50 race/pump gas mix in my vintage race bikes ( '77 Montesa VB360 and '80 YZ465 ) will this work for the TY ? Sure I'll have many more questions, thanks for your help in advance

Finally got around to changing the oil, no big deal since it only has 98 kilometers on it. I bought it as a spare for when my other ty wears out, but it's still going strong! So this one has been sitting in my spare room for 25 years. I've got a bunch of nos stuff for ty's including a tank for a pinky. I've only got the 350's, so I'm wondering if there's a market for a nos pinky tank? This link should take you to some pic.s http://s492.photobucket.com/albums/rr284/always5s/

Hi I have purchased a 2nd hand exhaust for my TY250D from america, and need some advise on removing carbon/ oil deposits from the in side of the exhaust. I read some where that heating the exhaust on a bbq can burn off these deposits, but I am concerned that the heat might distort the exhausts shape. Is it ok to heat my exhaust on a bbq? Many Thanks, Will

Hi I thought I would share my recent experience of removing the front 2 cylinder nuts (long aluminmium) from my TY250D. These nuts were seized solid I tried the following methods to remove them because I thought they were seized on the crank case studs: 1) Impact wrench (24v electric) - Did not budge. 2) Long extension bar and 13mm socket with a blow torch heating up the nuts - Resulted in rounding the hex shape of the nuts. 3) Drill a small hole in the top and spray liquid wrench onto the stud inside the nut, then use a irwin bolt extractor with a long extension bar - resulted in the hex section of the nut shearing off completely. At this point I was considering …

Hi there. How easy is it to fit bigger wheels to a TY80 ? My son looks like he'll be a bit big for his Ty soon and I was thinking that I could pick up some bigger wheels to make it last him a bit longer. I have a spare frame and swinging arm which I am prepared to modify. I thought that wheels from a DT50 or similar would do, or maybe just a set of rims to lace the original hubs to. I reckon the first thing to change would be the fork length by making some spacers to fit on the original forks and also lengthen the swingarm or manufacture a new one to take the larger wheel. If I kept the suspension mounts in the original place it should raise the back end enough so that …

Hi, I am restoring a TY250D and need some advice. Is it possible to refurb my old DID rims, bead blast them then re anodise them? If so where could I get this work done? I have tried to source some new rims from sammy miller products and central wheel components, in particular the MORAD TR rim which is the same style as my old DID rims. Unfortunately MORAD are no longer manufacturing the TR style. Many Thanks, Will

Has anyone made a new air box for the 175 ? I am building a majesty and would like a new air box, original is supposed to be too small in volume and must admit it does seem a small volume especially if engine is asked to do more, i.e. 200cc ported etc etc.
