I'm sure this has been covered before but I didn't find it: Need to replace the seals on my TY250 (1974). Can I do this without splitting the cases? If I can...how do you get the old seals out? Also any hint/tricks for putting the new seals in. Thanks in advance.

Trying to figure out why my 84 ty does not have spark. The manual says coil resistance is supposed to be 240 ohms +/- 10%. My problem is I am not sure how you are supposed to measure coil resistance. The coil on the bike (Aftermarket)has a small wire going into it and of course the high tension lead for the plug comming out of it. Are you supposed to measure it from the small wire to a ground source on the bike?

Yes, it's another TY80 rebuild question. Sorry. I've just got hold of a well beaten up TY80 and would like to knock it into some kind of shape. It isn't going to be concours; just tidy and safe to ride. The first things it'll need are new mudguards. New OEM ones (if a back one could even be sourced) will cost about

Hello everyone, I bought a YAMAHA TY 250 1985 but it has no spark. I think that the cdi-unit is defective. I've checked the resistance of the source coil and that's a bit off too (160 ohm in stead of 240 ohms). also I found a crack in the high tension coil but that measures out fine. Can anybody help me? thanks!

I've been trying to get the rear brake to work on the 250 ('78 twinshock), but I've encountered a problem - I don't think the pivot is original. Firstly, there was no return spring for the pedal, so I bought one, but there's no lug on the lever/pivot for it to attach to (should there even be one?), so the pedal just sits at the bottom of it's travel. Secondly, the shaft that comes through the frame is threaded and has a bolt on the outside of the frame, this doesn't seem right looking at some photo's on the net, as it appears it should be a circlip or pin through a plain shaft? Thirdly, the brake lever (Hub end) was hanging down, so I thought I'd switch it around to…

Has anyone recycled their lighting coil as an ignition source coil? Reason I'm asking is the PO ran without a flywheel cover gasket and everything on the stator plate looks minging. I have a couple of lighting coils on my other TYs which are redundant and I'd like to use as a cheap fix. Thanks, Jonny.

I have a 85 ty350 that has a surging rpm problem. After it is warmed up it will take what seems like forever to come down off higher rpms to a near idle and then it will surge up and down somewhere between 600-1200 rpm. Did these 350's have a heavy flywheel back then that causes them to be so slow coming back down to idle? I have checked for air leaks on the intake and the carb has been cleaned as well as a new air filter. Could the crank seals cause this? It really seems to "hunt" to find a idle speed that is consistant. Thanks!

Just a quick one, (ooh err missus) does anyone know if bushes are the same for 175 and 250 twin shock, need some today and my local dealer is showing stock of 250 but not 175 bushes. Found out now (cos some I had on order have just arrived) that they are the same so if you want some from (i.e Jk Hirst) then you can order 250 ts bushes for 175 and vice versa.

I have a early ty 250 mono, the clutch is slipping when i have it adjusted so that it bites where it should, and the only way i can find to stop it slipping is to adjust the cable so it bites very close in which isnt ideal. Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done about this? Cheers Lewis

The forks on my TY250 have quite a lot of pitting, although not really deep, the seals are gone and it seems futile to replace them and try a bodge fix on the stanchions. So, what's the best option? Re-chroming? Front Wheel could also do with rebuilding with new spokes if that has any bearing on the matter? I'm only just getting into trials, so not looking for all out performance, but want the bike right, at least to original standards. Cheers

I have just seen a picture of what looks like a yamaha 4stroke engine in a new tubular frame with yamaha wrote all over it! It was been ridden by one of the ex world level riders... Anyone know if this is on it's way or just something someone has thrown together?

I have fitted new shoes (no thicker than the old ones really)in an effort to improve my front brake. It will hold the bike from running backwards if stopped on a hill but has no retardation properties whatsoever. I have tried a couple of ideas but............... After Sunday's trial it was obvious that the power was being lost twixt lever and brake so I had a closer look at the setup. I don't know if this is the standard cable http://s346.photobucket.com/albums/p409/Olddabber/Yam%20brake/?action=view¤t=002.jpg but there is a bend in the adjuster to clear the proprietary mudguard stay. Pulling on the brake causes this tube to flex (trying to straighten) whic…
