I've recently started restoring a TY80 for my son and have hit a problem with the chain guide mount (or rather lack of one!) The bracket on the swingarm seems to be missing so there's nowhere to bolt the shiny new chain guide to. Could someone possibly take a photo of the area and if possible some dimensions so I can fabricate a replacement? What with that and half the welds breaking on the bash plate it's holding up getting the frame etc powdercoated and I'm working to a birthday deadline Many thanks

Hi All Just joined and have a few questions about my bikes which I hope some one can help with. I recently bought a pair of Yamaha Ty175's for me and my son to have some fun with. One of the bikes is pretty much in standard condition with standard handlebars, standard rear shocks and the front forks set at 20mm above the top yoke, the one my son rides. My bike is fitted with '6" renthals,Betor rear shocks which appear to be 340mm long, and the front forks set flush with the top yoke. Of the two bikes, my son's is the nicer to ride. Both have bars that seem to have the same amount of rise, and the foot rest positions both seem the same, stardard. Both of us being over 6 …

On a ty250a. Is the spark plug wire or high tension wire replaceable? I have replaced the cap or boot and terminal on the plug end but the wire is very hard and almost brittle. My concern is does the wire "thread" on to a treaded stud like the terminal end does? I don't want to go twisting on the wire and ruin the coil if it is a permanantly fixed wire in the coil. If it is replacable is there a special type wire or will any good 7-8mm wire core wire work? Thanks! Steve

Evening all, Recently purchased an immaculate '78 TY 250 that has been dry stored in a hall cupboard since 1993! Removed the carb to give it a clean, however it was gummed up beyond cleaning. That was solved by purchasing a Dellorto PHBL 26 from Craig at Yamaha Majesty shop. Got that fitted this evening and she fired up fourth kick! I have removed the two stroke oil tank and I have replaced the throttle cable to one that only operates the slide. So to cut to the chase - Is it best to leave the oil pump intact? Or remove it and fit a blanking plate? I would have thought that if it were left it would seize up due to the absence of any lubrication. What are your thoughts…

My TY175 lost spark so I thought I'd check the primary and secondary winding resistances of the ignition coil. The manual states 6k ohm for secondary winding resistance (between HT lead and coil earth) and 4 to 5 ohm for primary winding resistance (between small black wire and coil earth). The secondary resistance was fine, but I've run into problems measuring the primary. To start with, I put the red lead on the thin black wire and black lead on the coil earth and the meter showed an open circuit, but when I swapped the leads over it read about 2.5 Mohm resistance. Strange, conducts one way but not the other - methinks maybe there's a diode in there. Sure enough, the ty…

  7. In the process of putting one of the TY's back together and have a little problem with the wiring and wondered if anybody can help? All the engines i have in the shed seem to have different wiring colours. The one i'm installing has a Yellow, Yellow with red trace and a black wire coming from the mag. Which do i connect to the coil ? Have checked the other projects and all seem to have different wiring colours, i assume the coils are all aftermarket ones, on the coils. Can anybody help? Thanks.

Hello, I recently spotted a well known UK majesty 250 riders bike that looked like it had a TY mono gearbox/ crankcases on it. Has anybody seen or know of this mod? It had the twinshock barrel & head, the frame down tubes were altered & it has a mono bashplate. If I'm correct it must take some time to get running right?!!!

I have a US model 1977 TY250D that I am quite pleased with overall. I have an intermittent ignition issue that I believe would be cured with replacement of the points and condenser, However I am looking for a good excuse to upgrade to an electronic ignition. I have already spent a bundle on it, so why not? I have read through a good bit of information after searching this site but I would like to stimulate some new discussion if folks here care to share experiences. I have seen three systems that are similar in price that appear to be available for my TY. Do other posters have experience with these or other systems. Electrexworld, tytrials, yamaha-majesty? Inquir…

Does anyone have a contact at Betor Shocks? A little more than a year ago I bought a pair of Betor shocks for my TY80. When the shocks arrived I had the wheels apart and was getting the rims chromed and installing new spokes. The wheels were completed, new tires installed and shocks installed in August 2010 and the bike was ridden about 20 minutes. The seal in one shock started leaking and there is a green piece of rubber sticking out from inside the seal. I returned the shock to Matt at Speed and Sport where I bought the shocks and he has been trying since October of 2010 to have his distributor replace the shock. At the time they sold me the shocks Speed and Sport…

I will be installing new points and condensor in my ty250a to try to cure some of it's ills. I have the origonal service manual, is it necessary to remove the head and use a dial indicator for the true before tdc readings or can they be replaced and set with a feeler gauge to specs. It probably a good idea to remove the head and clean the carbon off but do you really have to pull the cylinder and clean the ring grooves etc as the manual recommend yearly? If so can form a gasket work for the cylinder base or must one use a oem gasket?
