Hi all, I've been riding dirtbikes and streetbikes my whole life, but am 100% new to the trials world. I picked up a 76 Yamaha TY250 last night here in the Seattle, WA, USA area. Brought it home and went inside to eat dinner. about an hr later i could smell fuel in the house. Drats. Went out to find a puddle of fuel under the bike. Fuel was accidentally on reserve, not off (still not good to find this much fuel on the floor) I come back out and find more fuel so i take a further look and the the bottom of the float bowl, the drain is dripping 1 drop of fuel every 2 seconds. Here is my question... does that mean I have a dirty or faulty float needle? Or does that mean …

After some advise on new tyres, please. My bike had the original Michelins, but they're stuffed. Should I stick with Michelin? Any other brands worth considering (Pirelli, Dunlop, IRC...) or to be avoided? The bike is not for competition, purely recreational, but I still want it to ride right. Appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks. bird bris. au.

After a few months of lurking on this forum, I've decided to get back into trials (30 yrs since my last one) and thought I build a TY175. Like a good shot gun, I like a nice fit on my bikes, and after seeing the comedy prices asked for yokes on the Net, I decided to modify my own. The lightweight yokes I've had CNC machined for my Buell track bike and Ducati 1198 didn't cost anything like the ones for the TY!

I just sold my 74 TY 250 to a friend because I was tired of always having to clean the points and stator to get the coil to produce a spark, but I did buy a either 85 or 86 TY 350 from my dad. It has gold rims, new tires, new rear fender, etc. Is there a VIN decoder that I can use to figure out which year it is? It runs good but I have to mod a FMF silencer onto the exhaust pipe. The head pipe has a hairline crack in it in the chamber area and I was wondering if I could mig weld it carefully? The headpipe looks like an aftermarket one because it definitely doesn't look like the stock pipe I've seen in photos on the web. Also, the bike didn't come with a headlight assemb…

I was going to replace the exhaust pipe on my 85 TY (mono) and when tapping on the expansion box area losts of large pieces of tubular rust or what was baffle fell out. Will it effect the performance good or bad? I have the option to return it but they are tough to locate in the U.S.

I have had this little gem for over 35 years. In that time the engine has never missed a beat. Although she hasnt been run for about 5-6 years, I attempted to fire her up a few weeks back and it ran really rough, wouldnt rev and spat oil out of the exhaust pipe. I thought it about time for a refresh. I am more than happy about stripping a single cylinder as I have done so with several others (Honda 125, Kawasaki 50) in the past. My problem is, the nut on the end of the crankshaft on the clutch side is being very resistant to being removed. The engine is still in the frame so as to firmly hold the engine still so I can apply leverage, but still it fails to budge and …

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has done the 270 conversion to the engine that is in the TYZ and the SY Scorpa. I take it the barrel will need boring and replating. Is there any noticeable difference and do you need to fiddle about with the carb much? Just wondering as to buy the 270 piston is probably as much as buying first size up from standard piston. Cheers.

I picked up this well used 74 250 about a year and a half ago on the cheap. I have had a couple 175's but never a 250 and wanted to build one for the local ITSA series. Here's what I started with. And what I have now. I still need to decide what shocks I want to buy and I would love to find a set of vintage Renthall handlebars. I'm still playing with the footpeg location but over all I'm pretty pleased with it. I got most of the money I paid for the bike back by ebaying the stock parts I didn't use.

  19. OK how longs a piece of string. Bought a standardish TY250 twinshock off ebay as a "project" standby bike for when the others are W.I.P. and i want a ride. OK shes not pretty but doesnt owe me a lot and mostly all there. Now i've measured the wheelbase and it's 50" there's 13.5" ground clearence and it rides and steers fine. So is it worth the hassle and effort of cutting and shuting the frame to lift the engine a la Majesty?
