Pre-65 Bikes

Can Anyone help, I have a BSA B40 fitted with Boyer Bransden ignition I would like to fit an ignition kill switch ( small push button type )how do I wire this into the system ?

Hello folks, I have just arrived on this forum, I recently bought a '63 trials cub and I am looking for advice on the best way to get the front forks set up, or should I just replace them with a set of Cerianis I have ?

I have been nagged for so long by several people that I should give up on my old Honda and Gollner Honda and buy a lightweight 2 stroke. Well here is my latest 2 stroke! Well no-one categorically stated I should buy a '2 stroke trials bike' Thats it MOT tested now and proof of age in the post, it will be a trial riding this in modern traffic what with no clutch and little or no brakes as the 2 stroke oil fumes get on to the back wheel rim.

This is probably a really dumb question but I am new to Pre65's (Last brit bike I owned was in 1980) How do the imperial chain sizes compare to metric?, by BSA chain looks to be about 428, does that seem right?. Also I have put an NGK plug in (equivalent to a champion N3) but it seems very loose in the threads antil the last turn, any ideas?. Ta in advance.

What is the performance difference between a std cam & an R cam when fitted to a 199cc Cub. If the R cam is used do you need to fit stronger valve springs. Also engine, gearbox & rear wheel sprockets, I thought of going with 17t engine, 13t gearbox & 60 or 62 rear wheel on 420 chain, does a wider size chain catch or rub around the gearbox sprocket area. Which is the best Carb to use I am told the Del-Orto 22mm is very good is this correct.

In the process of building a pre 65 two stroke, never did get on that well with 4 strokes, so all i need now is a Villiers 32a or 37a engine. Anybody got one spare? Not bothered about the condition as i expect to have to replace the bearings etc anyway. Just dont want any holes or cracks. So can anybody help?

Earlier this year there were some photos of competitors in the Scottish Pre 65 trial on this site. Can they still be accessed?

Hi All I need some help, I want to compete in pre 65 probably with a Cub or C15. Is there a set of rules as to what can and cannot be modified, for example to be eligable for the Scottish and the Talmag. I won't be getting an Otter or anything like that but I do like modding my bikes. Seeing bike's like Mick Grants of which very little seems to originate from before 1965 lets me think any thing goes, then I hear about no electronic ignition, no concentric carbs, no oil in the frame etc etc. I am confused!!!! P.S I'm not critisising bikes like Micks, I think they are wonderful and would build one tommorow if I had the ability.

Anybody know anything about alloy clutch baskets etc to fit BSA B40 ?? Seen one or two bikes advertised and they apparently have alloy clutches. Assume this is not just to save weight but as it is rotating mass will by reducing the amount of inertia enable the engine to "pick up" sharper ? Any of you guys had any experience ? is it a worthwhile mod? If so where can you get one?

I cant find the website for Faber Frames. I was thinking of an 'Otter' frame for my cub Has the address changed? had a long look at Duncan Mcdonalds cub today at a trial does he make them commercially?

A while back I bought a BSA Bantam 175 as an unfinished trials project, its a D7 frame but the rear tyre (4.00 x 18) catches the swinging arm. Does anyone know the best mod? Is is a case of extending the swinging arm behind the shock mounts or is their a better way? Cheers Eiger

held in derbyshire last sunday. 1st east midlands-62 marks lost.2nd south eastern-132 marks lost.3rd yorkshire-134 marks lost.it was a good tough trial with no shortage of big rocks!!

Saw an article about a Wasp Cub in a classic magazine. Very tidy but are they legal in pre-65 events?

Has anyone a picture of a completed Otter framed Cub or has had a ride on one.

Just got hold of the results of the Manx Classic 2 Day Trial. Should be attached with any luck. Excellent trial - 45 miles each day with moors, tracks and sections you dream of! Hi Can anyone advise on the level and grade of the oil for best performance on Betor forks taken from an early Sherpa. As they are in long Triumph bottoms, the quoted volume doesn't help. Should the oil cover the top of the damper rod on full extension? Trouble with this is that oil sprays out of the breather caps during events. The anti-splash pieces on the spring bottoms are in place. On full compression, the oil is about 4 inch from the top of the stanchion. Any ideas? What grade would be best for the UK climate? Cheers
