Pre-65 Bikes

Have a tiger cub trials with standard shocks, swingarm and distributor type ignition. The bike has alloy rims and enfield forks (i Think) Can anyone suggest alternative shocks, swingarm,ignition. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

How do I remove the bottom leg from Cub heavyweight forks, I need to change the seals, do I unscrew the chrome carrier from the leg using c-spanner on one of the 4 serrations or a peg spanner on the inner smaller chromed carrier with 2 holes??? Its a new ( to me) bike and have no manual as yet. Any help appreciated triton

Just purchased yet another project off Ebay. It was described as an AJS/Matchless 350cc in trials trim for restoration. I my enthusiasm I can't wait for the reply from the owners club as I have applied for membership. So do any of you people have any information on the history of the bike and the availability of parts. There is no tank or seat, and no obvious sign of model number. The engine number starts with 14 CSR, the frame number is a five figure number starting with 13. There is also another number (casting number?) on the rear of the gearbox which is M1071. I saw a pre 65 royal enfiel the other day, it was breath takingly beautiful!!! did people appreciate there good looks at the time or do they get better with age? opinions please. And also why is it pre 65 bikes and not 60 or some other number? Yamaha Dude

Good evening folks. Just acquired a BSA Bantam for a bit of a project, I am told its 175cc and wondered if anyone had any information as I've no experience of these machines. The frame is a D7 and engine is a D143. The bike is complete although rusted and I am hoping to get new rims (originals beyond repair) and sort out the forks which are rusted solid. Any information on the bike and where to get spares such as rims, spokes, forks and any other information would be appreciated. Thanks. Eiger.

After fitting new clutch, To my Tiger Cub, metal driven plates, friction plates & removing Serco alloy cover plate and reverting back to the original metal one. The clutch was really good dry with the primary cover of just trying it around the garden. Can I run the clutch dry as soon as I put oil in (100ml transmission fluid) it goes back to slipping on kick over etc? or just a drop of oil to lubricate the primary chain. The new clutch is a lot thicker overall and the 1/4 BSF adjusting grub screw is just hanging on the last few threads, so I loctited it until I stripped down again washed it all in petrol, now no slip until I can get a longer grub screw or convert it …

Have aquired a Triumph Cub trials bike. Engine is 1958 distributor top mounted. Can anyone suggest modifications to make the bike a bit more competitive for entering pre-65 events. Bike has decent forks and alloy rims at present, but standard shocks. Thanks in advance

I know Serco is the place for Cub engine work but who's the guru on frame/fork mods. And who supplies parts and info for trials Triumph unit twins and BSA C15s/B40s?.

Hi all, I only have 2 unfinished projects in the garage at the moment so I am thinking about another one!!!!! I have a pile of bits and was thinking of throwing them together. I have an early Greeves frame ('59 I think) from the essex twin and was thinking of using a C15 engine I have spare. I don't like the Greeves forks so am considering putting some modified 3ta forks on that I have. Do you think it will be any good? what do you think of Bitsa's / hybrid's? Any opinions welcome. A close friend has a BSA C15 (roadster) and a Triumph Tiger Cub (trials) that have been garaged for a little while and intends to dig them out soon, and i'm thinking on getting my first Pre-65 (BSA B40 ???), question is, now that 4-star petrol is no longer available ! What do you use/recommend ? Thanks. Gaff.

Hi I am sure this has been covered before but do any of you have any ideas where i can get some footrests c/w mounting plates for welding on or bolt on to an Otter frame kit for a B40 i will (hopefully) be receiving soon?? I seem to remember some chat recently about using some off a current trials bike but i cant remember which one or where they are obtainable from. How much would be nice too. I've looked at the Miller ones and Surrey Cycles and to be honest No too narrow. Would like a bigger area underfoot. If not i may just get some old Bultaco ones and make mountings up but would prefer to buy and fit soem already made up so that should they get damaged spares are ava…

Could anybody tell me what to look out for on a 1964 BSA B40T. The sprocket is welded to the hub, at first i thought this was a bodge, since found out that they were originally made this way, is this true ? Would another hub (that takes a bolted sprocket) fit ? Ifso, which ? Gaff.

Wanted a Project Cub can be in boxes Vinnie

Hi I am, amongst other things, in the process of rebuilding / modifying a BSA B40 ex WD for trials. I've ordered an Otter frame and when that arrives i will start putting things together. My engine is a 67 with points on the side cover but i was thinking of scrapping the current ignition, zener diode rectifier capacitor etc, and substituting a modern electronic set up. I've been looking at the one made by Rex Caunt do any of you have any experience of this ?? or is there a better alternative?? Finally ANY suggestions of useful mods that you guys have found worth incorporateing into the bike would be most appreciated.

Does anyone know the best trials set up for a tiger cub, i have some 3ta forks but need softer springs......what about twin shocker stauchions? Regards Christy

Any of you Pre65 ers have any problems with rear wheel Punctures and tyre coming of the rim I am approx 15st in gear. New rear tyre plus heavy tube there are two tyre clamps. I was riding on 5lbs approx hoping the 5 would keep the tyre on the rim, not a chance. The tube burst opposite valve.

Tight clutch plates I am trying to replace my clutch plates and after fitting, new clutch plates the clutch drags. The new clutch plates are very tight! do I need to file them down on the 3 corners ? of the sqaure lugs or just the sides. When I fitted them with the clutch hot they slid in OK. But when cold were tight. Will I damage the plates by filing them?. Are there any clutch advice sites anywere, have looked on Google no luck.
