General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

Hi All, Hawkstone has inspired me to look at upgrading my 97 Techno Right now it's just a dream, but you never know. Cash would be tight so I'd need to choose the age/condition carefully .... I think I'm looking at Rev3 2003 onwards. Does anyone have any advice on what's particularly good or bad on the Rev 3 models 2003 -> I'm really not a good rider so I don't think manufacturer differences would mean much to my performance, I'm looking at Rev3 'cos I know Betas and they're easy to work on ... but do you think I should try riding makes first? Any advice on what good/bad points I should be looking out for Does anyone have recent experience of buying these bikes…

Hi I'm just getting back on a trials bike after a long while off them, anyway I have been offered a 1996 Montesa 315R with only ten hours on it so it is pretty much like new and was wondering if this would be a good buy, would it still be able to keep up with the modern bikes or would it be off the pace? I'm going to ride at clubman level and not at a high standard, your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey All! Just joined the site. Looking for some insight. I wanted to pass the introduction, and get down to business. I live in the US, in Colorado. I am an experienced rider, and been riding 34 of the 37 years I have been alive. Motocross, Enduro, Trails, etc. I want to start getting into trials riding. I am looking for advise on a used bike trials bike for under $2500 or so. I am 6'3' 280, good shape, but eat too damn much. Here is my question. I have found some good late 90's Gas Gas's for $1500 to $2500, but I have heard they are "fragile". I can ride with finesse, but due to my weight I put a lot of torque on bikes. Then ad my aggressive nature I put …

About 25 years ago I used to have a Fantic 200 which was great fun but stolen. I never did any competitive trails, no where near good enought, but I enjoyed bumbling around on the bile either following my ex on her horse or out with pals playing on the lanes and slag heaps. I now fancy another one, agin for mucking about on and to help keep fit. It need to be lighter that the old Fantic and easy to ride. I have about

A few people have mailed me asking about the pegs I bought on ebay a while ago, from a bloke called Steve Butler (can't remember exactly where from - I know Yorkshire somewhere). Anyway, he called me the other day asking for a link off our site, for a little website he has up and running now Trialcast Here for anyone that is interested. I'm pretty damned happy with my pegs so far. My weight has been battering them for a few months now with no ill effects, and they got a right good bashing on Sunday, which actually made me think of this (shut it Webmonkey - my fuel was off OK ) For those that know me, you'll know they've had a pretty good test I like to give praise…

How munch do aftermarket exhaust pipes ( e.g. S3 ) change the character of the machine? Are there any experiences with this?

Hello people, I'm trying to find some suitable plastic guards for a couple of my projects namely a MAR and Cota 247, I'm aware of Goneli and Stilmotor but the Goneli requires bolting a second guard to it for the required length and the Stilmotor is longer but doesn't have the desired arch. I know that Inmotion had some rear translucent Goneli style longer guards a few months ago that were about 680mm end to end and about 930mm around the arch and some matching translucent front guards but they are sold out and they aren't planning on getting any more made. Those Inmotion guards would have been perfect for me but I couldn't afford them at the time and now that I …

I've a Beta evo 300 that I fancy taking with me to next years iom TT. I'm going to do some off road stuff but I'd also like to use it to get about on. I don't fancy standing up for miles though. Has anyone any experience with aftermarket seats ? I have seen the Beta seat tank unit but it doesn't really look £500 worth.

  11. Started by NAD1,

Went for a practice for couple of hours today and now have really sore / achy knees. First time on bike since October (I’d guess) so am assuming this is a combination of total lack of riding - 2 evening trials in 2018 and 2/3 of a centre champ round before torn calf muscle stopped play - and age combining as a double whammy to tag team me in the knees. Will ice knees tonight and hopefully cure Any remedies to help this for future reference? Or should I just not ride at all and avoid the knee issues ???

When buying a new bike how can you tell how old it is from just the bike thanks.

Hi there, I am new to trials side of things and I am in the process of trying to find a second hand bike. Unfortunately I am on a tight budget and cannot afford to splash out on a new bike. One thing that I am wondering is if there is a way to tell of the genuine age of a trials bike. I know that with off road bikes you can tell from the frame and engine numbers...Is this the same for the Trials? Also if any of you have any tips to look out for when buying a second hand bike these would be greatly appreciated as well...or even better if you know of any good bikes for sale in Scotland or North England any info would be fantastic. Thanks in advance for your help.

I checked the date stamps on the bike, the bike is a '13 and tyres are 2011 and 2012, I guess they should be replaced with new rubber, although they have virtually no wear, thoughts???

Here we go... love it or hate it? I'm currently running Castrol TTS but was told that a teaspoonful of Castrol R in the mix will give you the classic 2 stroke smell, without the associated running problems. I'm off to make the woodlands smell nicer... Boner.

Can any of the experts help me to get the correct air pressure in my air forks? I find that they are very hard to check as the mere action of sticking my pressure gauge on to the valves usually lets all the air out, i know very little air is needed to produce pressure in the forks, but there must be a foolproof way to do this surely???? cheers, S.M.

Would like to get an air compressor to sit tubeless tyres on the rim. The guy in the garage across the road from me is sick of me using his. What size i.e. hp and cm3 air compressors are people using ? I realise that you need quite a whack of air to seat a tubless tyre. regards Gareth

  19. Started by NoTraction,

Good Evening folks, I’m looking to get into trials as mentioned in other posts and am currently bike shopping. Initially I was looking for a twin shock as it reminded me of my youth and an old TY I once had. But, to be honest, the prices are a bit off putting and I have a budget to stick to so had decided to find the best Beta 200 or 250 I can for what I want to spend. But I keep finding myself attracted to the air cooled monos, cheaper than twinshocks generally, a bit more up to date I guess but with a bit more ‘soul appeal’ than some of the modern iron. I’m a sucker for a classic bike and don’t mind a bit of tinkering. Would there be any disadvantages to …
