A post on behalf of my dad that has a 1993 Aprilia climber 280....but doesn't know exactly what oil mix ratio he should be using. Does anyone know... Thanks in advance for any help

  5. Started by timbuk,

I recently bought the climber as have always fancied a go. It was reasonably cheap and seems to be pretty solid except there is an oil leak from the gear shaft that comes through the kickstart shaft. I cannot find a workshop manual or anyone who seems to do the parts, so is there anyone out there who can point me to a dealer or website - any suggestions welcome.

Whats up with these bikes? Thinking about a trials bike to knock around on and help improve my trail riding skillz!! My main ride is a gas gas DE 300. My brother has an 90 Aprilia Climber. 240 he thinks but not sure. It has very little use. He got it used to knock around on and hasn't played with it in 10 yrs. He said it needs the front forks serviced and rebuilt, rear shock serviced and an air filter. Other than that he said it runs fine. Would this be a good bike for a noob to knock around on. I like smooth power. Looking for and easy fun bike to hack around on. any idea what it would be worth with the suspension up to snuff. I'm thinking i might offer to fix it up i…

I have an Aprilia climber which I believe is a 90 or 91 model. Does anyone know what make the forks would be? I have a small amount of play in one of the legs and want to make sure I can get spares for them before I strip them. Hopefully just a bush worn. I have seen posts on here and other Forums refering to Paoli and Marzocchi. Alos any ideas where I could buy seals and bushes?

  13. Hello, I am new here my name is Matt I just bought a 1992 Aprillia Climber 280R from a friend. The bike has a problem where sometimes it will take a lot of kicks to start then other times it will start on the second kick and when it does start the revs don't climb, it seems like the timing is not advancing. My friend said the bike started to get harder and harder to start by I mean you would have to kick it for longer and longer before it would start. Also the bike has a non stock CDI unit installed on it. He wired this up when the original failed but the bike ran with this CDI for a long time before this problem so I don't think that is the problem but I have order a u…

Hi all, I was on this a while ago asking for general info on the 1993 Aprilia 280R Climber (purple tank, yellow radiator shrouds). Now I'll be more specific. Looking at the forks, theres a couple of screws on the top and I was wondering what sort of adjustment was available on these forks and which adjuster is which? Theres also an adjuster on the left hand fork but not on the right. Which is which? Also, same question for the shock.........

Hi, i am new to this site and am trying to find some help regarding my trials bike. I am the proud owner of an aprilia climber 280 (world championship replica) i have had a few problems with this bike, any engine problems see the rotax man, he can get any part. Lately i have been advancing to the level of trials where the front suspention's performance becomes critical and have noticed it is slightly hard and jerky. Upon investigation some pillock who owned the bike before me has "modified" the suspention internals using parts off a different bike so the suspention does not work how it shoud. I know parts are very limited for this machine but any information on what i cou…

Hi Guys I've got a problem with my climber. The bike will start and run for anything between 15 - 60 seconds, and then dies!!! The fuel mix is 50:1, the carb has been cleaned 4 times, the coil and cdi have been substituted for another, and the bike still won't run. Already spent 3 days on this and I reckon it won't be long before I hang myself . Any ideas on the problem would be great. Has anyone had something similar? Heeeellllllllpppppppp Regards Dave
